Alan Sullivan

Alan Sullivan aka Seablogger, died peacefully today.

I discovered Fresh Bilge, his blog in 2005 when Brendan Loy was covering the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina. What began as an interest in hurricanes quickly became a must read daily. Alan had a vast knowledge that I have yet to find in any other personal blog I have come across.

Alan and I could not have been more different. But our differences showed me how alike we were . I learned so much from Alan and to see his last RSS feed which was his own obituary left me with such sadness. I feel a great loss in the blogging community.

Brendan Loy
has posted a fabulous memorial to Alan today and I have linked to it.
Also linked is Alan's blog. It will remain as a testament to Alan and the brilliant man that he was and is.

I will miss you Alan.Your insights, your intellect, your wit.
All of your "rare readers", (as he called all of us) will.
Fair sails Captain.
No longer are your locked on land, you're now free to sail, and I'm sure you will.

  2. I am very sorry for the loss of your blog friend...Because of your post, I checked out his site and found it wonderful as well; I put it in my "Favorites" folder and will explore it more as time permits...I read his obituary and hope Tim was with him in the end...I wish I had known of Alan Sullivan before he met the angels, but am grateful and thank you for this discovery...Take care, Abby's lovely Mom.

  3. I also read Alan, and discovered him the same way- through Brendan after Katrina. May he rest in peace.

  4. I too have bookmarked his blog - there's so much there to read and admire - thank you for the links.

I'm truly sorry to hear about his passing. This is very sad indeed - and as one commentator said on his blog - America is poorer without him.

    Take care
