Darkness Into Light Reprise

Abby in full mediation.

Driving in this morning there was a young man on a motorcycle who was driving rather aggressively. He got too close to my back bumper and then sped around me like I was standing still even though I was driving faster than the speed limit. I thought as he passed me that he was being too reckless. As I drove a little further up on this busy commuter road I saw a traffic jam. Now traffic jams at 5AM are a little odd. So, I thought someone had car trouble. Then, I heard a siren and saw in the back rear view mirror the lights of a fire engine. So I moved out of the way. Moments later the police arrived. Then traffic was rerouted around the accident scene and there I saw lying on the pavement this young man who had been on the motorcycle moments before. He was sprawled out not moving and all I caught was a glimpse of him as I drove by. The EMT touched his shoulder and got no response. Someone simply on their way to work -- believing that their day was just beginning -- now lying still on the concrete pavement. I pray that he was alive. I don't know the outcome. But, I was struck with how precious life is. Our cat blogging community lost a dear friend ;Trixie two days ago and this week a person who had been a fixture in my life succumbed to cancer. Life indeed is precious. Snuggle up close to your cats and tell them you love them. Tell your dearest friend, partner, or husband how much you care. You never know when it may be your last morning. So all my cat blogging friends let me tell you how precious you are to me and how much I appreciate your kindness and compassion and friendships...and Abby, Boo, Ping, Jinx and Gracie agree.

  1. How awful--and right after that other accident! You are so right--we just never know.
I would snuggle more with Spitty--if he'd let me! Never had a less-snuggly kitty! But sometimes I do a little forcible snuggling just the same!

  8. We are sorry to hear about the young man in the accident - the young men on on motorcycles are very vulnerable and never consider they are risking their (and other) lives.

  12. I feel you. I was on my way to work one morning lamenting the cross town traffic stalls. Turns out by the time I got there it was due to a bycicle crash. Sadly, what I saw was a tarp across the body. Only thing that was visible was his hand. I cried all the way to work for his family. He was someones son, or father or husband and they would never get to hold his hand again.

  13. Oh dear - that was not a good way to start the day dear friend. You are so right - we don't tell those around us how much we love them often enough. Thanks for the reminder. We appreciate your friendship so much too. It's people like you and several others on Twitter and in the Blog world that keep us coming back. HUGS.

  16. Sorry to hear about your friend. And seeing someone dead on the road is an awful way to start the day. A common sight where I live, esp during holiday times. Grumpf. Hope you weekend is better than your week.

  18. We remember when you posted this touching post. Seems like it was just yesterday, not '06! Life is so precious and mom wishes she could have had more time with her sister who died Dec 23 and her niece who died this week.

  19. You are so very right. This reminded dad of a time many years ago when he was an EMT in a small town and responded to an accident in which a local man was killed instantly. Dad can still see his body wrapped around the steering wheel, and knew that he'd left behind a wife and two adorable little girls.
