National Diabetes Month

Please scroll down for the current postings. This is a PSA which will run just through the month of November to highlight the need for Diabetes Awareness. Normal postings are directly below this one. THANKS

Parker from Perfectly Parker reminds us that this month is National Diabetes Awareness Month. Miss Parker is such a sweetie to keep reminding us to be aware, and Ann from Zoolarty has been kind enough to put this beautiful graphic together. Our own Mom is a example of being diagnosed with Diabetes II. Mom was diagnosed in 2006. She refused to listen to her Doctors who warned her that her blood sugar levels were rising, and then she was given the official diagnosis that she wasn't bordeline anymore, she was diabetic. Armed with that knowledge Mom said she would push back and yep she sure did. She pushed back and lost over 100 pounds and got rid of all the junky stuff she was pouring into her body that was making her sick. A little under 2 years later she was no longer diabetic. Now we know that this would not be a full proof cure for everyone, but it proved to Mom that she had been given a blessing in disguise. Take better care of yourself and stop making yourself sick, and so she has. She is not AS strict as she used to be but she has given up white flour, sugar and junky foods in favor of lots of lean meats, fruits and vegetables. Thank Miss Parker for allowing us to spread the word about Diabetes!

Please note that we are keeping this post up for the month of NOVEMBER and our regular posts will follow below.

Thanks and blessings to everyone.

  3. Paws up for your human! I'm glad she fought back! Sometimes health IS a matter of fighting for it.

I am thinking of doing a whole post about feline diabetes - it is affecting a lot of kitties these days too.

  4. We so proud of your Mums! And that's a great story. Our Mumsy has the diabetes too. It a long story, but she had it alls her life, but on account of how things were at her house when she was growing up, it did not get diagnosed till there were worser problems with it. We like how you gonna put your other posts under this one. That's a neat idea. We may see if our Mumsy will kinda copy it some. Maybe like just the logo or something with our posts. See, we are kitties with ideas!

Hugs to all you, and to Mom too :-)

  9. We are very proud of you for doing that! The mom's favorite uncle died a little over a year ago from complications from diabetes. It was a long, slow, painful way to go. He went blind, lost a foot then a leg, in the end couldn't even eat. That was the best thing you could have done for yourself!

  16. Our boy, now 23, has type 1 since he was 10 years old.
Our Auntie Carol who died this last Dec. 23 had it too.
Also our Grampa's mother. And our Nephew has it. All type one, which is insulin dependent.

    A cure must be found!

  18. Good going! Our human is trying to do better in that way too, and is losing weight. Diabetes is a terrible disease, and as your mom found out it can be reversed with some effort.

  19. Your mom is an inspiration. Diabetes runs in my family. Both my brother and sister have it but I believe we can prevent any disease. When my blood sugar levels rose, I lost weight and cut back on sweets as well.
We'll be doing a Vet 101 sometime this month on Diabetes.

  21. A HUGE Congratulations to your Mom!!!!! That is an amazing accomplishment and one that Glogirly and I can truly appreciate. Glogirly's story is much the same and just recently she was able to go off of all prescription medications. We know it continues to be very hard work to eat right and exercise. Reading your post has helped Glogirly to continue to focus on her health too. Thank you!
