A little Housekeeping

Spammers,
what bummers.
I turned off my anonymous comments because of spammers.
(Did I mention I detest spammers?)
They still try.
Of course.
But hey YOU spammers...
guess what?
Each time you go back into my archives and pick a post,
***
I go in and close the comments.
OK?
So all those old posts are slowly being changed to
NO COMMENTS.
Got it?
***
Oh, and I have learned
just to check my recent
postings and any of them
that has had double or triple
the traffic I normally get, I
just go ahead and close the
comments.
MY blog is so small,
Guys it's really
not worth your
S-P-A-M.

  1. That is sort of poopy. I think you can manually set blogger to no longer have active comments after a few days--a number of people do that to minimize spam as well.

    Hello handsome Ping!

  5. Do you have comment moderation turned on for posts older than say, a day or two? I find that helpful, though since I turned off anonymous comments quite some time ago, I've not had a problem.

However, I DO have a problem with tons of email spam coming to the Fuzzy Tales Gmail account. I actually just removed my contact info from both blogs, even though the email was written in such a way that it couldn't easily be picked up.

  7. Change your comments to be moderated after 1 day. You'll never get spam. I promise. Of course, I don't allow anonymous comments either.

I can't imagine why they even bother to spend any energy on spamming. srsly.

Have yourself a YAYful day. I'm hoping for warmth but not expecting it. Yet. *sigh*

  8. I think I also read that they do that to old posts so as to add to their credibility to unsuspecting people who click on them. By showing they have traffic where none exists of course. Or something to that effect.

  10. They do that to old posts to get their links out there as many times as possible on places that the search engines crawl. More links back to their site means higher search rankings. It's so sleazy. :(

Anyhow, Chey may have hit on an answer, if they are commenting on your old posts. I know Wordpress has a setting in preferences that defaults posts to closing comments after a certain number of days. Blogger must, too. (Sometimes we feel like the black cats in the family using Wordpress, especially when we can't help give step by step advice on this stuff to the Blogger users.)

  11. Spammers are the worst. We turned off anonymous comments a while back, and set our blog so that any comments on posts older than a certain amount of days must be moderated before they appear.

  12. Faz pouco tempo que tenho blog e não sabia que isso podia acontecer, vou seguir as sugestões dos comentários.
    É lamentável.

  15. I turned off anonymous too and also moderate all comments on posts over 7 days old. It has worked so far!!

  16. We don't allow anonymous comments and have comment moderation for posts over 4 days old so nothing seems to get through.

  17. We've had to do the same thing...turn off comments on old posts. Nasty spammers.
