Mancat Monday Ping's PSA

Happy Mancat Monday to efurryone!
Well guess what kittens?
It's now June.
June in our neck of the woods is Hurricane Season.
This year all the notable weather gurus are
saying it is going to be a very active and
volatile season for the Eastern Seaboard.
The weather pattern again this year is for
a cool El Nino which causes the Atlantic to be
warmer than normal.
That is the perfect condition for the formation of storms.
They are also predicting there to be more storms
and because of the warmer water for them to be more
intense.
The other bad component is they expect these
storms to come closer to landfall within the USA,
especially the Eastern Seaboard.
There is already a tropical disturbance within the
Gulf of Mexico which is expected to cross over
Florida later this week. We are expecting lots of
rain with this one, especially in mid and southern
Florida.
We hope all of our furfriends within striking distance
are keeping their supplies and being prepared.
We hope everyone stays safe but we know
it has been 8 years since a major Hurricane has had
a direct hit on the USA, we know it is bound to happen.
Somewhere.
Please be prepared and watch your local
weather for updates if you live in an area that
could possibly be impacted.
And...
our deepest prayers go out to all of those
who are being impacted by terrible late season
tornadoes across our mid west.

  2. Very good PSA Ping!! We read about those predictions and hope the storms are not too bad.
While they tend to not come here as often, that trend is changing.
We will check NHC/NOAA almost every day so we can avoid surprises :)
    You look good Ping :)

  4. We hope you all will be safe, Ping, and that the hurricanes remain offshore. (Well, we can wish, right?)

BTW, we like your new header, it looks great!

  7. Good PSA, Ping! We need to remind the humans to refresh the hurricane supplies. 72 hours worth of food and water for everybody, including the pets in the household. For those of us in areas that are hurricane prone and aren't in coastal evacuation zones, we're hearing that the sequester may mean slower response times by national guard after disasters, so Ping's message of being alert and prepared is especially important. We're watching that first tropical disturbance and are glad the construction repair on our house just got done so that we have gutters before the rain arrives so that water doesn't leak into our sunroom again!

Our head peep has a friend who lives in Moore, OK, and we are purring for everyone up there. So frightening and sad.

  9. We are so afraid for those who might be affected by hurricanes. Just like how it broke our hearts to read about those affected by the recent tornadoes.

  10. I pretty much always stay prepared after living in Florida for 31 years, even though I'm now in south GA and not technically in Hurricane Alley anymore. We still get some bad storms and lots of tornado watches and warnings. Weather is merciless. I feel just awful for all those folks living in the plains states right now. Terrible, terrible, terrible.

  11. Ping that is a very important reminder. Mama says she does not know how you all do it. She would be stressed all the time. Out here, we are most likely to get an earthquake or perhaps a volcano which happen much less predictably so that she wouldn't ever know and just have to deal with the fall out and to her that is much easier. You can come here--Mt Rainier is not very active--and purr with me if you feel like you need to get away handsome boy.

  15. We used to live on the east coast so we sure do recommend having your supplies ready. You don't have time to do much by the time the hurricane is upon you since it is so hard to tell where they are going to land. We ran from three hurricanes and it is not fun at all. So we wish you lots of good luck.

  21. We are purraying for no more STORMS of any kind anywhere. Nice rain, cool breezes and not too hot of days is what we hope for every year. That's our wish for efurryone this year as well. That photo of Ping is stunning. Purrs and hugs from the kitties at The Cat on My Head, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Josette

  22. I am purring for everyone to stay safe from the hurricanes and the tornadoes.

  23. Those strong hurricanes can easily pack enough punch to continue up the Atlantic seaboard and come as far north as we are in Canada. They are hard to predict - will they stay out at sea, or veer inland and cause trouble? Keeping prepared with generators, extra supplies etc. is about all one can do and keep weather watching.
