Gracie at Home

If you would like to light a candle for Gracie you can at the above link.
Gracie not feeling so hot after getting released yesterday. It was a very long 24 hrs for her.

She is feeling much better today.

Watching and sitting with me while I work.
 Watching her sassy little sister.
Brought Gracie home last night after a long talk with the vet. Prognosis does not look good but we have to wait for the results of the analysis of the fluids that they withdrew from her abdominal walls. She has a pleural effusion. Gracie ate when she got home and her breathing while a bit elevated was not alarming. My biggest challenge will be the pills since her Dad only has one arm. I worried about her overnight but she was there to greet me this morning and wanted breakfast. Food was something they could not get in her. Managed to get her pills down. It wasn't pretty but it got done. She has been bright eyed and she breathing is relaxed and she seems comfortable. She drank for her fountain. The vet and I agreed to treat the cat not whatever her underlying diagnosis will be. She will give us our cues as to how to proceed with her care. But today seems to be a good day, and I learned with Abby to take those and cherish them. So maybe for the next 24-48 hours we can suspend belief and pretend it is life as normal. The moment will arrive soon enough with reality. There are already preplanned posts for a bit. I will update on Gracie each day, but please keep her in your prayers and purrs. Thank each one of you for all the supportive thoughts they touch us, each one deeply.

Yes, that's been said over and again, hasn't it: Treat the cat, not the numbers.

  13. Many hugs to you and Gracie! We hope that she can be pulled from this illness, and live life fully for some time to come.

Here is a way that I can get pills into cats who are a bit difficult. I sit with them between my legs, and rest my hiney on them a little bit, squeezing my legs together so they can not escape. Then, I can grab their mouth and insert the pill. The vet might have pill poppers. If not, I like the ones that Revival Animal has at http://www.revivalanimal.com/Piller.html?sku=22656-795
And Revival ships quickly. You might want to get several, just to have them around.
These make it fairly easy to pop the pills into the back of the mouth. And trust me, I pop a LOT of pills into my cats over the years. Right now, I'm inserting 6 pills into 2 cats daily. I hope this helps.

Re pilling. I find coating them in a little butter helps, gently keeping jaw closely and stroking under the chin downwards.

  40. We hope the cause of the fluids is an infection, and not what the vet suspects, so Gracie can be treated with antibiotics. We are so sorry you are going through this, we haven't stopped purring for you in months. Of course, Gracie is on our list too.

We use the method of pilling that 40 Paws uses, and its just a matter of seconds. Once the cat is squished between your legs & facing away from you, pull the head back & the mouth opens naturally. Push the pill down the throat as far as it will go then clamp the jaws shut and stroke the throat until the kitty swallows. Quick and painless! Our mom wraps her legs around us so we can't even use our front legs! (Except she won't do this to MMM, you will understand why.)

    Purrs & headbonks!
