Thankful Thursday In The Garden

I am so fond of this maple tree.
I photograph it often throughout the season.
It is interesting to watch the cycle of renewal
and dormancy.

Ginger follows me everywhere when I am outside.
She is my golden shadow.
Last month while I was cleaning out some stuff in the
workshop she went inside with me.
NOT thinking anything of it, when I was finished I shut it
down and went about my business.
The next morning, no Ginger.
I thought oh no where is she?
I called and called and no Ginger.
Well when I went into the workshop that next day
I suddenly heard "meow".
WHAT??
Yep you guessed it.
Ginger spent the night inside the workshop.
So, lesson learned.
Always find the cat before I close up the shop.

Purple calla lilies.

One single beautiful rose.
I don't have good luck with roses.
In fact last year I removed an entire hedge of knockout
roses. They had become unsightly, can you believe that?
How is it possible for roses to be unsightly?
But these were, believe me.
It was a massive dig out for me.
I put in more lilies of the nile, which are far far
easier for me to manage.
I do still have one flowerbed on the side of my house filled with
about 10 rose bushes. I trimmed them down
as the start of fall and they are better looking
this spring, but no where near how beautiful they should be.
I just don't have good luck with roses of any kind.

Ginger said you're out here that's great with me!
Ginger stays all day inside the perimeter of my yard.
She does not like being indoors.
There is a gray male that also likes to nibble on Ginger's food
that visits and chases Ginger around.
(Ginger is neutered)
He appears to be very territorial,
The other day I watched as Ginger emerged from the wooded area
between my property and the one next door.
She was in a hurry.
Then I saw the gray male hot on her pursuit.
I went outside and called her and she came
running back to me, so I stayed with her and made sure
the male would not return, at least for awhile.
He is a gorgeous long haired cat with striking yellow eyes.
But he is very skittish.
He likes to come up to screen door on the catio,
Jinx & Ping both screech at him
like little banshees.
He leaves, always in a hurry.
It's funny, because all of my indoor kitties know Ginger
now and they are not upset at all by her presence.
She is such a sweet girl.

  4. I locked my own ginger - Tungsten - in a closet, twice. But only for half an hour or so each time.

Does Ginger have a home? Is she a neighbour's cat? I hope the grey fellow isn't causing Ginger too much anxiety.

  5. Ginger is very pretty, it is too bad she doesn't want to be inside. I have never had luck with roses either.

  17. you have a lot of action by your house and your flowers are gorgeous. I am hoping to have a container garden on our balcony. I am waiting to do it around Memorial Day since our weather can be so up and down. I don't have a house or I would do a proper garden.
