Mancat Monday

Do you think Ping knows
how to relax?

***
Mom has been tending to the mess
that Hurricane Irma so kindly bestowed upon us.
Firstly, we count our blessings that
our home was not impacted, truly we do.
Because literally across the street
people are having to gut their homes
from flooding.
But, being older than dirt, Mom just can't
do as much of the yardwork as she once did.
So she has been doing what she could, as
she could.
She came into contact with a local
Boy Scout group, none of whom she knew
in any way. They said they would come by
and help. Mom was so appreciative of the
offer, but she really didn't think total
strangers would show up to help her out.
GUESS WHAT?
This last week a group of about 25 Boy
Scouts showed up and helped Mom get her
downed fence cut up and to the curb,
cut down half fallen limbs and
helped pick up loose debris in the
yard. In about 2 hours they were able to
do it all. What would have taken Mom
weeks they did in just a few hours.
Mom was in total gratitude to them for
doing this.
Not just the help, but seeing such fine young
men doing something they were enjoying
and being so respectful.
It gave Mom a different appreciation for
the youth in our community.
So, a huge shout out
to Troop #653 in our community
for helping an old woman in time of need.

  2. That is awesome that the Boy Scouts stepped up to help! My human is actually not surprised - that is the sort of work ethic they are given by being in the organization.

It really is good to see young boys helping people in the community. They will most likely become very fine men.
Maybe now, Ping can make biscuits in the sun :)

  15. With all the recent disasters, we know lots of people have stepped forward to help, but we agree that young people today can be way too self-centered. Big giant purrs to these Boy Scouts for coming to your aid. As two of us are Cat Scouts, we surely would have helped if we lived near you. Our dad was an Eagle Scout! As for Ping...we always love seeing your gingery goodness. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo and Cooper Murphy

  20. Yes, we think Mr. Ping definitely knows how to relax. He should give lessons :-) We are so glad the Boy Scouts came and helped. We are not surprised they showed up like they said they would. CatDaddy Junior was a Cub Scout and then a Boy Scout. Mumsy was a leader in both Cubs and Scouts too. Imagine what a wonderful world it would be if everyone just helped each other :-) Hugs and love to you all!

  22. What great work by the scouts. And we're thankful you guys didn't have the damage that many suffered. It must have been a close-run thing, though.

  23. Boy scouts are great! They have always been willing to help. A young girl in Houston went back into her flooded home to get her prized possession, Her Brownie Girl Scout vest. When she got the the assigned shelter, she put on the vest ans started serving. She was not alone. They have reported this in almost every shelter where Girl Scouts have been displaced to, helping
