Abby loves to be scritched. She is quite vocal in her appreciation. You can hear her purr across the room her motor is so loud. She begins to nearly groan because she is in such a happy state.

Wishin' & A Hopin'

I saw Ping sitting and just staring up at the doorway, and I wondered what in the world was he doing?
He was in such a trance. His attention totally devoted to the leaded glass windows in the doorway.
Nothing could deter his concentration. Until I went up to the window to try and figure out what had him so mesmerized. It was a lizard. He could see it's movements on the wreath which were on the doors. Cats can amaze you sometimes.

Miss Abby

Abby is up to her old tricks. Boo wanted to go back into the bedroom to settle down for the night last night, but Abby was in her way. Her Dad came by and picked her up to carry her into the room. But, ABBY was in the way. To get Dad to put down Boo, Abby grabbed his bare feet with her paws and nipped his toes. She is a determined little munchkin. By the way, all ended well ,except that Dad continues to be upset with the little troublemaker. Abby just is jealous of Boo.

This N That

Boo had a good report at the V-E-T. Now I can breathe a sigh of relief. She knew something was going on when she saw the cat carrier and she bolted from the room it was in. IT was very tough to get her into the carrier, she is very strong for such a little kitty. Again I had another sobering experience at the Vet. It was explained that there was an emergency and it would be a few minutes until the Doctor could see us. Someone had brought in their animal with spinal cord injuries. I couldn't help but reflect how fortunate I was to be dealing with something that was so minor. Even though I know how badly Boo's "boo boo" was she had something that healed and she is fine. Especially once we got her home. She was REALLY fine then.
My wide eyed Boo.

I don't know if you've been following Lewis the Cat story, but this is the cat that has been 'attacking and stalking' neighbors. Yesterday the judge ruled that Lewis is under "house arrest" for life. Thankfully the cat was spared being put down. I don't believe that the whole story was explained, because I can't imagine allowing a cat outside when it was known he was a little more aggressive than normal cats. What would you do if this had been your cat? He really is a beautiful cat. I found yesterday he even has a My Space page.

With great pride (and thanks to Patches & Mitten's Mom, Toni) above is the Gold medals for Abby & Ping. All 5 cats had a grand time at the catolympics and they are already talking about getting ready for the next event!
Thanks again Toni!

When You Think You Have Problems -- And Don't

BOO

This has been one of those weeks where you shudder because of all the problems that cropped up and the things that had to get done. Boo got an ulcer on her eye and we had to rushed her to the Vet, the car developed problems and cost $$$ to get fixed, work started caving in, and the top of a tall pine tree fell down in the yard from Alberto's winds...it was just one of those chaotic weeks. Then we had to take Boo back to the Vet for another checkup. That itself was a fiasco . Boo thought it was horrible because I had to capture her and put her in the carrier and I thought it horrible because I had to capture Boo and put her in the carrier. I had the carrier set up ready to just put her in when I discover (or she discovered) the top zipper was opened so she got away. ZOOM! I had to recapture her but by that time Abby was hot on Boo's tail and she was WAY upset because I had Boo in my arms. So to get to Boo, Abby used me as a ladder. I had a cat hanging from my blouse -- you have to picture this Boo in my arms and Abby takes full aim at getting to her so she JUMPS up to my knee grabs hold and climbs up to chest level and is stuck because her claws are embedded in my blouse. Boo had already jumped from my arms and was long gone and I had a cat hanging my from blouse Meow'Ring! So once more I had to go recapture Boo, but this time I took her into a another room and slide her into the carrier and that was that. My husband was silly enough to ask me what was wrong? So we raced to the Vet because we were running late only to get there to sit in the waiting room and wondered why we made an appointment, then we were informed that the reason for the wait was because there were two families who were having to put their animals down. All at once, I realized all my problems were really trivial, in fact, I didn't even have any problems at all. As we took Boo back to have the Vet re exam her I saw one of the couples leaving and my heart went out to them. They were leaving without their beloved animal, and I looked at Boo and thought how fortunate that she has something that will heal. Sometimes God just makes you stand up and take notice.

It's' that time again for the Friday Ark round up of all the beautiful animals. Drop by and look around. Then don't forget to check out the Carnival of the Cats this weekend being hosted by Mind of Mog.

The Saga Continues

Boo is better. Her eye is not as swollen as before and she didn't act like she was in any discomfort, although I know it is difficult to tell with cats, they hide their pain well. I felt SO bad when it came time to give her atropine and antibiotic ointment. BUT it was worse when I had to give her the metacam which is an oral goo. She wailed and cried, and although I knew it wasn't hurting her, she didn't like me prying her mouth open to insert this medication into her throat. I can't blame her. At least I was very careful with the medications that had to go into her eyes. NO problem with accidentally getting it into her mouth. She just ran from us after we were through, but once she went and got some of her treats and settled down, she jumped up next to me in our chair and she slept real good last night. Only one more time I hope, that we have to go through giving Boo this treatment. We go for a checkup at the VET on Thursday.

Thank you Zeus for a lovely adventure to the Everglades and to Mickey's world! It was so much fun and Abby and the gang haven't stopped talking about it. They really enjoyed meeting you, especially Ping. He said he was glad to meet another Gorgeous Ginger!

I Feel Like A Bad Momma

My precious Boo.

Yesterday when I got home from work I thought I noticed Boo favoring her eye. So, I tried to get a good look at her, but Abby would have none of that. She proceed to howl at Boo everywhere I took her, she even gave me a little "you know better" nip to let me know I needed to pay attention to her. Boo seemed fine and everyone had their dinner. Then when Boo went into her room and she was lounging on the bed with me giving her scritches, I noticed her eye again. It looked swollen and she was keeping it closed. So, I called her Dad in and he looked at her and we decided to call the VET....they said bring her in. So poor Boo had to be carted off to the VET. Mine you there is a storm brewing out in the Gulf. I figured better not wait even if this is a false alarm. When she was examined they found a small ulcer on her eye, which probably resulted from someone (dare I say ABBY??) scratched her on her eye. So, we have to administer two types of medications to her eye and give her a syringe of pain medication. On the way back from the VET, Boo got out of her carrier in the car, I sat with her in my arms and she swirmed but she let me keep her. She was shivering so badly I felt real helpless not being able to ease her pain and discomfort. Once we got home we put her back in the bedroom as the VET said to try to keep her in a darken room because that ulcer feels pretty bad. But each time we would go into the bedroom she would dash out, then Abby would chase her, then she wanted back in the room and this went on for awhile. Finally we had to give her the eye medications. THAT was a fiasco. Dad held her and she was so good, but Mom was the one who messed it all up. I tried to get the goo into her eye and did, then I thought I wiped off the excess, then I did the drops, and wiped the excess of that as well ,but somehow Boo got some into her mouth and she started foaming. So I dashed off to read whether there was any need to call Poison Control (thankfully NO) and she got out once again with Abby chasing her. Poor Boo, now her eye hurt, she had braved the VET, now she was getting chased all over, and to top it all off, I had gotten medicine in her mouth. Finally we got her back into the bedroom and she settled down next to me in the chair like she normally does. It was just her and I. She seemed to like that, I could tell when she looked up at me that she was thinking "where is that little bratty sister?". But, she was quite happy to lay there and not be disturbed and she fell asleep. We kept her in the room all night with us, and she was exceptionally good. She let me sleep most of the night. Woke me up once by falling on my face, but most of the time she was laying on top of the pillow I have for her and she was quite happy. It was a bad night period as I was listening for NOAA alerts for tornados. An alert came at 3AM this morning and there was some damage at the Beaches. We are under a Tornado Watch until 2PM today and then they predict another feeder band from Alberto will come in later this afternoon. I worry about the little poodins at home...but they are probably safer than their Mom and Dad who had to fight the bad weather and get to work. I did leave Boo in the bedroom so that no one would bother her today. We have to go back for a checkup Thursday. But, I she seemed to be doing pretty well this morning. I dread giving her more of that medication....

ONE Year GotchaAnniversary

Happy First GotchaAnniversary Abby!

Today is my GOTCHAnniversary. I am a very happy poodin. This is what my Momma wrote on June 12th while she was waiting to find me:

The previous weekend we went to PetsMart to look at Gracie from Lucky Cat Adoptions, hoping with anticipation that she was the one. But, my heart was saddened when I knew she wasn’t for me. As sweet as she probably was, she was larger than Jinx, and I wanted a sister for Boo. Luckily though, fate shined on us and the following Monday I received word from Lucky Cat Adoptions that another TUX kitty was found, 5 pounds, a virtual love bug—could it be?

Abby is her name. Will she be the right one for me this Sunday? I want a cat that speaks to me. I wanted another girl kittie for my Boo, and I wanted to find another black and white tuxedo that is smallish like Boo. I wanted a lap kittie!! Is it wrong to want a specific cat? One weekend Lucky Cat Adoptions had this cute little orange and white (more white than orange) tabby named Charlie. He was so darling, and he had the temperament and personality I was looking for, except he was orange and white. Was I wrong for passing him by? I went back the next weekend to see if he was still available for adoption, and he wasn’t; some lucky family adopted him the weekend before. I knew he would be gone because he was such a sweet thing. I always felt this tug of war, I wanted something really specific, and I wasn’t sure I was going to find it, and did I want to settle? A cat is a lifetime investment. Don’t you want to be sure of your decision, I kept asking myself? So I waited. Impatiently.

And then there she was in her tiny little igloo bed, petite, dainty and perfect. Beth (from Lucky Cat Adoptions) took her out of the cage and she clung to me, mostly from fear I suspect. But, she was perfect. She looked amazingly like Boo, which was a total and happy surprise. Then Beth said she doesn’t have a tail. What? No tail! I didn’t even notice. But then who cared, she was perfect. She climbed up my shoulder and clung to me, my new baby.

We were in PetsMart a few hours doing all the paperwork, and getting a few necessities for our other cats. We even got Abby’s nail trimmed. She didn’t resist or seem to mind all that much, which was totally wrong, although I didn’t know that at the time; the poor kittie was traumatized, I didn’t know how much right at that moment, but it would be clear to me after I learned more of her story. One thought seared itself into my brain that day, Beth from Lucky Cat Adoptions said “the Father of the family who had Abby informed me that if I didn’t want Abby to just drop her off behind PetsMart because I (the Father) don’t want her back!” By telling me that the Father felt this way; she sealed my decision even firmer about Abby and made my resolve strong.

After getting her some extra food & litter & a new scratching post, we were off. Abby and her cute little meow rode like a dream in the car, hardly any reaction at all. Did she like riding in the car, or was she terrified of what fate would befall her?

She was lost. She had been taken from the arms of a 10 year old who no doubt loved her dearly. TOO affectionate her family complained. TOO much underfoot, craving attention all the time, this poor little kitty needed lots of hugs and kittie kisses which her human family did not want to give her.

So we settled her into the bathroom. We had food, water and treats waiting for her. Found a comfy little bed that none of the cats warmed to but which she climbed right into. Put her favorite scratching post nearby so she could paw all over that. Put her favorite mousey in her bed along with the special toy we brought her. Abby all 5 pounds of her was scared beyond any understanding. Where am I, she had to ask? Where are my humans? Why did they abandon me to these humans whose smell I don’t know and don’t like? What’s a poor kitty who has no one in the world to do?

What she did was make as much ruckus as she knew how; trying to make us take her back. She hissed and she growled, and she snapped & she swatted and she was totally untouchable. What have we gotten ourselves into? She hates being here; she hates me; she wants to go home! The home she knows.

Alone for the night, she must weep for her former human child, it all must seem like it’s a life time ago.

Those were the fateful words I wrote nearly one year ago. A lot has changed since that eventful day. Abby and I have had lots of ups and downs. But what we forged was a bond that is as strong as steel. She never need worry about being abandoned again. She is home. FUREVER and EVER.

An Eventful Afternoon

Poor Jinx, he had a hard day yesterday. Right after he ate dinner, he started throwing up, and throwing up and throwing up and throwing up some more. He threw up for nearly 30 minutes and he just couldn't stop. I called the Vet and they told me to bring him in. So 45 minutes later we were in the Vet's office. He got checked from top to bottom and the only thing the Vet could conclude was that he was trying to get up a hairball. But he got two shots. One for anti-nausea and the other was extra fluids...he looked like a little camel. We got home and the first thing he told me was he was hungry. So after a while of him begging I gave in and he got a can of stinky goodness. He ate the whole thing and everything stayed down, and he was fine this morning. Thankfully.

~~~~
Has anyone else had a vomiting spell with their cats? It definitely scared me to death because I was so afraid he had gotten into something that was poisonous, or some string or something I couldn't even fathom. He seemed to be feeling pretty good this morning and I left him sleeping in his favorite spot , so I hope things are totally uneventful today.
Rocky Top
Finny arrived safely, but tired from his journey. He traveled a long way from Charlotte North Carolina to right outside Jacksonville Florida. Boo has been making preparations for their stay since she knew that they would be coming, and she got her softest blanket and favorite toys so they would have a nice place to stay. She also made sure we prepared her favorite foods…grilled chicken. She wanted them to have a really good meal after such a long journey.
Who's coming up the driveway? It must be Finny...come on in Finny, we've been waiting for you!
Once Finny got here efurryone introduced themselves. Finny had never seen a Manx before, so they very concerned because Abby was without a tail. She explained to them that she had been born that way and she was accustomed to not having one. Ping invited efurryone to play on the cat condo with all the toys Boo had put out. But once Finny climbed up to the top he was out like a light.Poor fella he was really tired.
Boo making her way to Beau's place. BYE BOO!
Boo knew it was time to take the TORCH and head on her way. So she bid efurryone goodbye and off she went on her way to take the torch to Beau. She promised to be efurry careful on her journey, so Beau keep an eye out for Boo, she will be up to your place very soon.
