Abby has been the only one who will drink out of a cup

(that wasn't for her I will tell you)

An ordinary morning that I wish I had again.

How can be it possibly be?

That you're 10!

Where did the time go?

I can't believe so many years have gone by so quickly.

Please tell me how to stop time?

The above photo was taken just a few days after she 

first arrived.

Her ruff hadn't filled in yet.

It's a happy birthday to my beautiful girl.

One In, One Out

Why is she out there.

and not me?

Well we made it through June and July

without too much activity in the Atlantic.

It's not been what was projected.

I know, especially towards late August

and into September, the Ocean will

become alive.

September 10th is the peak of the Hurricane

Season.

As much as I would like to think it will

remain calm, I can't feel that was about 

an 8 week span beginning in August and 

ending in October.

Happy Gotcha Day

My Sweet Gracie

Today 17 years ago we found you at the 

Clay County Humane Society.

You were outside the front door.

I questioned the receptionist about why they did 

not bring you in as it was so evident you wanted

to come inside.

They told me that in all likelihood, if you did it 

would mean a death sentence for one gray tabby.

Such is life...and death.

She kiddingly asked if I wanted you.

I demurred because at that moment we were

looking for our missing cat.

Once I found out Button wasn't there,

and my emotions were at their height,

I took one more glance at you.

You were but a young cat, barely passed

being a kitten. You engaged each person as

they came by the front door.

As we were leaving I said

"I'll take her".

So they ran and got a spare carrier,

we scooped you up and off we went.

Once I had you in the long car ride back 

home, I thought what have I done?

I had just adopted Abby the month before,

now another cat to introduce to the 3 amigos.

But you Gracie, you blended in from the first

moment. (Abby was another story!)

I am so glad in my emotional state, I took

you home. You deserved many more years

than you got but I know you had a good happy

safe loving home.

Love you Gracie Grace.

Large and In Charge

There was a visiting cat outside the door.

 

Snowie

I don't have photos of Snowie on my computer.

I have some on my phone.

But after several weeks I need to share what 

has happened.

I know some time I ago I mentioned that a white

cat arrived, unannounced, more likely

abandoned and she smelled the scents of cats

here and well she stayed.

I said I couldn't tell if she was a  boy or girl.

Well, she's a GIRL that is for sure.

My girl got pregnant.

Yep she became one of the groups of

stragglers. She is very food oriented, and

fluffy. Very fluffy. That is why until she was

about to give birth and I saw how she

was full of milk I didn't know that she

was having kittens.

June 17th she had 4.

The Daddy is the same as the Daddy to 

Millie & Maize.

It's a long story about where she wanted

to keep them and where I tried to move them

and she was determined to keep them

in an unsafe place.

***

I was doing my best to try and help.

But on the morning of June 24 she was

waiting for me and she hadn't left

her kittens before, so I went to see how

they were doing, and I found the area in

disarray. No kittens.

I looked at Snowie and she had wounds.

***

Sometime during the night of the 23rd,

her kittens were taken.

I can't tell you  how devastated that made

me feel. It made me feel awful for her,

she was looking for them.

But they were long long gone.

I don't know for sure what animal attacked

her and took them. But,

I was determined to not let that happen again.

***

I got an appointment to have her spayed on July 8th.

She has done great and she's all healed up

from both the attack and the surgery.

***

I know we all have hard things in our lives.

We just have to buckle up and deal with them.

But some are harder than others.

I didn't know how I was going to deal

with having 4 more mouths to feed

but I was determined to try and find  homes

for those kittens.

It was such a gut punch to lose them.

***

Cats do grieve, even shortly.

She knew she lost her babies.

But I was determined not to let that happen again.
