A feel of trepidation fills the air.
The past two seasons have shown an some striking familiarities.
2009 had below average activity with only storms Claudette and Ida making US landfall but both were cut down by wind shear from the Gulf of Mexico
2010 was a season like no other recorded with 12 hurricanes yet none made US landfall. In fact, with every other season of at least 10 hurricanes at least 2 make landfall. Only the tropical depression of Bonnie which hit Southern Florida made landfall.
When the run of hurricanes without US landfall ends it tends to end in a not too quiet way. Approaching the 2011 hurricane season it remains to be seen what the tropics hold in store.
Hold onto to your seats kitties it may be a very bumpy ride.
Purrs,
Abby, I purrs for you and all who live near by.
ReplyDeleteStay safe from hurricanes

We are hoping for a quiet hurricane season this year. We don't even have our box o' supplies ready yet. Do you have the nice accordian shutters? Ours are the kind that have to be bolted on and it takes about 4 hours to do the whole job!
ReplyDeleteWe hope the ride will be smooth for you this year. Our grandma's on the east coast of Canada and storms will surge up their way too, but usually they're downgraded to tropical storms by that time. Not always, though.
ReplyDeleteWe will purr hard that the hurricanes don't land again this year - it must be so furry scary.
ReplyDeleteLuv Hannah and Lucy xx xx
Great info, Abby.....we always watch hurricanes.......we may be 2 hours inland from the Gulf of Mexico, but we've gotten the aftermath of them more often than we'd like to remember!!!!!

I also read that El Nino and La Nina are "neutral" this season, which greatly effects the hurricane weather pattern. The last time they were neutral we got Rita and Katrina.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a basement!
I have too many relatives along the East Coast! From Florida to South Carolina.
Stock up on nonperishables and batteries now!!!

ReplyDeleteOh, Abby, I do hope the hurricanes will stay away. With all the horrible stuff of the oil spill in the Gulf last year, it was so fortunate there wasn't a hurricane there on top of that. Maybe we all need to purr a lot. And a lot more.
ReplyDeletePaws crossed for a quiet season.
