Good News
I am happy to note that thankfully with additional antibiotics the inflammation is now regressing, the pain is going down and the abscess is starting to resemble a normal wound. The culture they took at the ER grew nothing, which is great news. I hate to be real graphic but what was seeping out of the wound was not pretty and I was afraid I had gotten staph or something else. I was too afraid to think much about it. But, I really encourage anyone with a bite to please seek medical attention quickly. I saw my Primary Care Doctor in less than 12 hours after the bite and it was just starting to get nasty. The antibiotics she prescribed were not strong enough to over power the infection that set in. It did take an all out assault with a combination of two antibiotics (which I have to take for 10 days). But I am so glad to see things begin to go in a positive direction!!

Thank goodness that you are improving. I have not had a reaction like that with either of my cats' biteys and I am so sorry that you and several other kitty pawrents have also had such a terrible time of it.
ReplyDeleteI get biteys but they are relativly shallow. Pleas econtinue to get better each day. I can imagine how stressful this is. xoxoxox
Oh my! We haven't been able to check blogs for the past few days so we just now read about the bite story. Eep! We're sorry that you've had to go through this, but very very happy that things are getting better! xoxo!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear about the bite getting better. Talking from personal experience i know darn well how much it hurts. I have scars where they had bit me- one on each hand and then on my leg. I just read about everything that happened- and you are exactly right, ANY bite from a cat that breaks the skin requires immediate attention- mainly because of the bacteria in a cats mouth can cause horrible damage. I knew a man that lost fingers from his cats. Just accidental bites, but he didn't think he should get those looked at... and well... ick. But, we are proud of you for taking care of yourself. Thinking of you and sending positive healing purrs and headbutts.

ReplyDeleteGreetings,
ReplyDeleteWe are glad to learn that it is improving and you are so correct that one needs to take this seriously so that it does not get worst.
Wishing you all the very best and a speedy recovery,
Ms K and Egmont
Whew! I am glad to hear you're on the mend now. That bite sounds like it was very scary for a while there!
ReplyDeleteThe Monkeys' Mommy here. I had a cat bite many years ago that got so inflamed I had to be hospitalized. It turns out I'm quite allergic to cat saliva in the bloodstream so I know it can be very dangerous. I'm glad to hear that you're healing well, though!
ReplyDeleteYay! We are SO glad the bitey is better! Mommy will definitely take prekaushuns wif bites in the future.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear the bitey is getting better! Whew!
ReplyDeleteOh that's good news!!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness that is wonderful news! I am sure Miss Abby is so relieved. Purrs all around!
ReplyDeleteWhat good news, so glad to hear you are on the mend!!!
ReplyDeleteWe are so glad to hear you are doing better. That was really scary. Who would think a cute little kitty could do so much damage? We don't expect that out of our pets!
ReplyDeleteI had always heard that a cat's bite was very dangerous, but never realized it was THAT dangerous. It's so good that you got to the doctor's right away and started treatment. Human bites are also dangerous - good information to know just in case!! So happy you are getting better and almost back to normal.
ReplyDeleteSo happy you are starting to improve. That had to be scary. I never knew a cat's bite could be that bad!
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear that you are doing better!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad to hear that you're getting better. This is such a good reminder of how serious a cat bite can be.
ReplyDeleteWe are sooooo glad to hear that the new set of antibiotics is helping you to heal. When Cody bit Mom during the horrible move a couple of years ago, she wasn't able to get into the doctor for almost 2 days, and her hand was almost twice the size of normal. Fortunately, the horse pills she had to take worked and she didn't have to go back for an IV like they threatened her with. We agree that kitty bites should be seen by a doctor.
ReplyDeleteCody and Gracie
We are happy to hear this news. Paws crossed for continued good healing.
ReplyDeleteOh, good news indeed! We're glad you're healing and continue to send purrs!
ReplyDeleteGreat to hear you are healing!! Phew!! Good advice too to seek medical help asap once bitten. Please please keep healing and rest and take care! x
ReplyDeleteGlad you are on the upswing. Mom hates to admit this, but she has been nailed enough times that she sometimes swears she knows the routine better than the doctors... haha....
ReplyDeleteOh, no, I am so far behind I had no idea you've been bitten. I just read the original post on it and I can just imagine how much that hurts! Glad you are taking such good care of it. Purrs and woofs for more rapid healing.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that you're on the mend x
