Abby's greeting is to rub her cheek against your hand. She loves to rub her scent onto any part of my hand or fingers. One other thing she does quite often is to use her teeth to 'pinch' a part of my hand. I knew it was a sign of affection, and I was explaining this to a good friend who told me that her cat loved to nip her eye. So at a cat show she asked someone with some expertise what her cat was doing and why? The person explained that it was a 'kitty kiss'. So, now I know what Abby is doing. She only does this while she was being affectionate, so I knew she was expressing her love back to me, now I know what a a kitty kiss is!

I also know the difference when she isn't being affectionate. She lets me know when I have overstepped my boundary with her with a much stronger warning and NIP!
Abby--it's good to be a little picky! :). Hello my handsome Ping!
ReplyDeleteYou are training your human well, Abby. I do much the same thing.

Mommy thinks kitty kisses must be like angel kisses.
ReplyDeleteSometimes my human can't tell the difference between Binga's love nips and her mad nips - they can be pretty hard!
ReplyDeleteAwww sweet Abby!! Yay for giving mum lots of kitty kisses! Take care

I know the difference between Ben's kisses and warnings too...usually one is accompanied by purring and then when the tail starts thrashing around I know he has gotten over stimulated and it is time to stop petting him.
ReplyDeleteThose good greetings are very special, but so are you sweet one!

Exactly Abby that is where the term 'love bite' comes from....just a little nip. There is a huge difference between a love bite and a mad bite only a cat lover knows too.
ReplyDeleteWe love your pic today!!
Hugs madi
She's a little dear!

ReplyDeleteWhen Abby gives a an annoyed bite,do her ears go back a bit?
But then,Abby is probably not too annoyed too often :)

WE all give Mom little nips too. So you are doing all right Abby. Take care.
ReplyDeleteI love how delicate the line is between kisses and ouchie nips. If our mom is really lucky, we give real smoochies.
ReplyDeleteYep...we like giving our mom kitty kisses too!
ReplyDeleteThe mom had a kitty many years ago who would hold a mouthful of skin in his mouth and purr away when he was being scratched. The scratches just felt SO good purring wasn't enough! It wasn't a nip, but more like holding a hand. Of course his eyes were shut in ecstasy. He was one of the sweetest beings she ever met.
ReplyDeleteI like to gently nibble mum's knuckles when she is petting me. When she goes to bed, I go and nibble her nose. Sometimes she yells because she says I do it too hard.
