Well as strange as this may sound we still do not have a completed picture. The specialist called me about 30 minutes ago and the only thing she confirmed is that Abby has HCM. So it is heart disease. She said her lungs were clear (good thing), but she is still in the oxygen tent (bad thing). She was sending her to the ER again tonight with instructions to try to wean her off the oxygen. She also said that in the first set of X-rays she saw a "mass", she repeated the X-ray and didn't see it. So she is sending that out to be read by a radiologist. I either forgot to ask, or she told me and I forgot but I am uncertain when that information would be back to her. I was surprised at the word "mass" and didn't understand her until she said tumor. Because in our consolation today she mentioned cancer. But then this Vet practice specializes in oncology. So again we are in a holding pattern. If anyone has had an feline who was diagnosed with HCM and needed oxygen please email me. Right below my Header is my contact information. So the final thing was she told me she would call me in the morning and let me know how overnight went and that s where we are at.
Still waiting...and still praying.
Hug your kitties tight tonight and whisper to them you love them.

We've got our motors revved for you, beautiful Abby! ((HUGS))
ReplyDeleteWe are purring like crazy.
ReplyDeleteOur only experience with HCM was with our dear Nimue who left us in the late 80's. By the time we knew anything was wrong it was too late. We have not had a kitty who had it and needed to be treated.
Thanks for updating us. I do have experience with HCM, though I never did home oxygen. My Rhett was diagnosed with HCM after radioactive I-131 therapy for hyperthyroid. I didn't have to do home oxygen for him, though. I can't find your contact information, but you should be able to see my email address with this comment, I think. If not, I followed you on Twitter (@FelineHerdsCats) and you can DM me there to get in touch if there's anything I can help with. Big hugs. I know this is overwhelming!

ReplyDeleteI've had a dog with CHF but that was years ago and medicine changes so much. She did not have to be on oxygen at all, so we are no help. I have had a cardiomyopathy cat, but once again his presentation was very different from what you are going through with Abby. Hopefully the radiologist will be able to have an opinion for you soon about whether there really was a mass or if there was something else going on. Our purrs to you and to Abby and know that we have been thinking of you.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update. Hope Abby weans off the oxygen tonight and things look up for her tomorrow. I know it's a scary time for you.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update.
ReplyDeleteContinuing to send healing purrrrs.

ReplyDeleteMewdy Blue was diagnosed with HCM very early in life and with treatment lived a very long, active life. Though I miss him immensely I'm glad that still has a lot to give the world.
I encourage you to get a board certified cardiologist involved in
Abby's care if at all possible. They would be the best at getting her the right treatment. Please hang in there and know that you have the support here.
merci pour toutes ces nouvelles, nous
ReplyDeletepensons à vous.
We know how hard this is for you and sweet little Abby. We send you love and so many rumbly purrs that Abby can be helped. We have no recent experience with feline HCM that would be helpful. We are thinking of you all and have all our paws, eyes, legs and tails crossed that the results show hope and way forward with treatment
ReplyDeleteThinking of you very much
