Ping is checking out the premises to make sure there are no introoders. You see lately there has been this large buff mancat sauntering in our yard and Ping is our introoder alerting system. When his alarm goes off the whole house knows about it and acts accordingly! Ping takes his patrols very seriously. (too seriously he will spray if he sees outside cats)
Oh Ping! Our orange cat did that too.

I hope you and your posse are able to scare him away. Way back before me there was Milky-Way a neuter sweetheart but lo and behold we too had an introooooder MS first charged the door then when the introooder sat on the deck MS sprayed the door. Mom was astounded. Thankfully the next few times it visited MW was napping then after a few days we never saw it again. Good luck
