Call us shocked!
***
I've had some problems with some neighbors.
Minor things since they've moved in.
What they say doesn't match what they do.
Those kind of folks.
***
A few weeks ago after a skirmish with some underbrush
being removed between our properties, (and since finding out
that it isn't their property -- it's a utility easement)
from what they deemed was their property, they came
over and fussed and fumed and issued a dire
warning NOT TO DO IT AGAIN!
They also stopped the people I PAID to do the work.
This is the underbrush. It's thick and had lots of thorny vines.
There was problems with bees building their nests,
snakes, and debris falling all the time.
Last year one of their medium sized trees fell into my yard.
Did they help?
No I had to hire someone to cut it up and remove it.
***
Anyway....
Last week they came over and asked if we'd
seen their rooster??? I hear their rooster
I've never seen it.
They have an 8 foot privacy fence.
So the rooster was missing. Feathers had been
found by their cars on the other side of their property line
from mine. But they had seen some cats.
Of course they were accusing the outdoor
cats of taking off with their rooster.
Ummmm....
***
I honestly do not believe the cats had anything to do
with this.
I know I'm being biased with my thinking,
but the cats that were seen were probably alerted to the smell
of the kill. These cats do no go hungry and the chicken coop
has been in existence for over a year.
The missing feathers were over on the other side of their
property.

I have tried to just not have any interaction
with these people as they are not very likeable.
I imagine they think the same of me.
I just hope they don't try to do anymore
to those innocent cats.
Two of them have been shot with bb's.
When I mentioned that fact to them they were
quick to deny it was them.
Strange though that this only happened
after the chicken coops were put up.
But, I don't know for sure it was them,
just like them I have my suspions.
***
But, since they have a free roaming cat I was
warning them.
Someone shot two of my cats.
I didn't go over and ask them when it happened.
I didn't go over and insinuate it was them.
Like they did with me.
I didn't go over and ask for assistance.
I just dealt with it.

If you have a chicken coop,
make it so other predators can't get in.
We have all kinds of predators in my wooded
neighborhood.
Raccoons, possums, foxes, snakes, bears...
I mean it could be any type of predator.
***
I know cats could be the culprit, but I doubt
the ones I feed were.
Oh dear! Those sound like the kind of neighbours you need to keep an eye on to make sure they don't do anything to your ferals. There are ,no doubt, other predators in the neighbourhood :/ They just think you are an easy target for anything that goes wrong :/ Sheesh!!!
ReplyDeletePurrs, Julie
They would all end up with chickens up their ass if our Dad was there. Anyone who kills a cat doesn't deserve to live.
ReplyDeleteAMEN
DeleteIt doesn't matter if cats were responsible for the rooster's disappearance or not, they have no right to shoot them. You should go next door and tell them that you are sorry about their rooster, and offer them a jar of chicken soup as a peace offering...
ReplyDeleteThey sound like horrible people. And for what it's worth, I really can't imagine a cat taking down a rooster. At least the roosters I have known in my life. Those un-neighborly neighbors need to go suck an egg.
ReplyDeleteThat rooster could surely defend himself against a cat.
DeleteWhat horrible neighbours to have. Roosters are usually quite big and very often aggressive so I can't for one minute think a cat would attack it. Far more likely to be a fox or some other predator.
ReplyDeleteThey sound like trouble. So sorry you're having to deal with people like that :(
ReplyDeleteThey sound awful. I feel so bad for the cats. XO
ReplyDeleteOr dogs...even cute little dogs will run in packs and kill chickens. A full grown rooster would be a formidable foe for a cat.
ReplyDeleteThat is right.
DeleteUgh. Neighbors can be such a problem. We have bad neighbors too. It’s so frustrating. I don’t think cats would bother with a rooster. That rooster would be as big as a cat.
ReplyDeleteDebbie, this is horrible, If they keep it up can you talk to your lawyer about having them send a letter from him advising the neighbors about YOUR rights and property...anything he wants to say? It's worth a call to him to see. Even better an appointment with him to talk it over.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you are having to deal with these awful people.
