There is more and more information pointing to Google getting ready to go on a massive rebranding of their existing product suite. According to a post by Mashable, Google intends to get rid of several non-Google name brands and rename them as Google products. The moves are apparently part of a larger effort by Google to attempt to unify its brand in preparation for when Google+ goes public. The services themselves aren’t going away of course, I mean Picasa and Blogger are two of Google most popular products with Blogger is one of the Top 10 most visited websites in the world.
When it’s all said and done Picasa will be renamed Google Photos and Blogger will be Google Blogs according to the sources close to the issue. While several other Google brands that aren’t Google branded are likely to be affected, there is one that everyone seems sure is in no danger of getting a name change – YouTube. It’s one of the most popular Google brands period and personally I don’t ever see them rebranding it, the brand name is too synonymous with online video to get rid of. This isn’t the first time Google has done this though, in 2008 they rebranded JotSpot as Google Sites, in 2009 Grand Central was launched as Google Voice.
No exact info on when the transition will happen in known but sources say it will be within the next two months. So what do you think, is this a good move by Google?
I don't care what they call it, just as long as none of my 104 photo albums or blog posts are in any way impacted. LOL.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I hate the newly revamped Blogger in Draft, very inconvenient to use, IMO, and have gone back to the old Blogger publishing page (which now looks like Blogger in Draft did before the change). So if they're going to "improve" everything they give a name change to, it might all take some adjustment...as least from some of us middle-aged folks who subscribe to the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" theory.
I hope it doesn't mean blogging problems whatever they do!
ReplyDeleteGoogle can take over the world if they want (and are! LOL!)and prefix all their products with their brand name so long as they stop fiddling with blogger settings thinking they're doing everyone a favour (no they're not! They're just reminding everyone that we are at their behest!) But saying that google is still one of the better search engines around. I await for them to take over twitter and facebook. LOL!Take care

We agree with FuzzyTales. If they can make the change and not mess everything up, fine. But we got this feeling...you know how stuff usually goes with computers and stuff. We sure don't see them changing YouTube! Sometimes change is not aways the best idea. What's the old saying, "if it ain't broke?" Hope Google is not getting too carried away with having to put their name on everything. I mean, if they own it, they own it, right?
ReplyDeleteIts ok but they better not screw up the blogs.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny that they have a great name and want to rename !
ReplyDeleteI got nothing to be Fuzz as long as they keep all evil from my accounts !
Thanks for the news my frind
xoxo
They can do anything they want as long as they do not break the golden rule...It it ain't broke, don't fix it" !!!!
ReplyDeleteI am fine with it too as long as everything isn't ruined in the process. Like any other big change I would expect some bumps in the road along the way and be surprised if there aren't.
ReplyDeleteThey can call it whatever they want as long as they don't screw it up and change stuff.
ReplyDeleteDon't move my cheese.

Lately, I think they've stolen my Followers, who all seem to be gone now, which makes me sad. They pop back once in awhile though, MOL!
ReplyDeleteYeah, my Human wishes they'd stop fiddling. As soon as she learns any software (photoshop, pagemaker, etc. etc.) they "improve" it. Sigh
