273 days....
...from the novel Goodbye for Now by Laurie Frankel"To love is to lose. It's just that simple. Maybe not today but someday. It is the inevitable condition of humanity. Some sadness has no remedy. Some sadness you can't make better."
"But then why isn't everyone walking around miserable all the time?"
"Because ice cream still tastes good. And sunny and seventy-five is still a lovely day. And funny movies make you laugh, and work is sometimes fulfilling, and a beer with a friend is nice. And other people love you, too. [Death] has been around since time immemorial. You've run up against it. And there's no getting around or over it. You stop and build your life right there at the base of that wall. But it's okay. That's where everyone else is too. Everyone else is either there or on their way. There is no other side, but there's plenty of space there to build a life and plenty of company. Welcome to the wall."
So I live my life right at that wall, knowing that death is real and can't be avoided, and some days are indeed very, very good, while others are very very bad. But I do believe that those I love who have gone before me will be waiting. And the biggest reason this life can still seem bearable, and even often beautiful, is because of that hope.
This is why my human doesn't like to be away from us kitties for too long - she knows that no matter how long we are with her, it is never enough time and she wants to make the most of it.
ReplyDeletewe echo sparkle's human's sentiments.

Okay. I've found the wall. I'm going to remember that. Thank you. I need to figure out how to build.
ReplyDeleteHugs to you.
We agree with Sparkle.
ReplyDeleteIt is important to make the most of the time we have. Important to spend time loving each other.
We still remember those that have gone before, and we still miss them.

Everyone has already said the important things. It's so important to love the ones we have with us while they are here. Time goes by so fast! Love them and make good memories we'll carry in our hearts forever. Big purrs to you.

Sparkle nailed it once again. Love and hugs from us.
ReplyDeleteThe joy of love far outweighs the pain of loss even though, at times, that loss can feel like a dark, suffocating abyss. We need to find our way through the abyss to the memories of joy on the other side.

What Sparkle said!
ReplyDeleteIt's funny that meeting someone is never as strong an emotion as losing someone. I think it's because most of the time, we're never quite sure what the meeting will bring. The emotions take time to develop. But they are strong and full by the time we lose someone. I suppose it has to be that way, but it still hurts despite understanding why.
ReplyDeleteSo very true. And that you cannot feel the deep loss without the deep love
ReplyDeleteEvery day with our loved ones is precious. I do believe like you that we will see them all again when we pass.
