Thanksgiving is today.
If you lost someone, or are battling with an illness
yourself, or with someone you love today
you may not feel much like celebrating anything.
But as the season change, and we are pushed more
inward we can give thanks for having a
chance to reflect and remind ourselves that life
is a circle of loss and renewal.
***
Perhaps you notice you can do something kind for
someone not expecting it.
You never know how it may make their day bearable.
All of us never knows how hard their life is
because no one likes to burden their pain on someone else.
***
So this Thanksgiving we come to the table where
every broken heart has a place.
We can pass the love from hand to hand,
we can share our stories of feeling shattered
and alone,
we can talk about our stillness
and the disillusionment.
We come to this table to nourish
one another and feast on love.
We share what we have with one another.
We bear witness to all who suffer.
***
We come to the table to say to one another
that in the grips of Grief there is hope.
We can affirm we are broken but
grace is present and will mend our wounds.
We gather to give each other encouragement
to forge ahead along the tough journey.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful and truthful words. "Grace is present and will mend our wounds" - very true and somedays it's all I can do to hang onto that belief while other days it feels absurd that I wouldn't always know that to be true.

That really was a beautiful post. We went and had Thanksgiving Dinner with a good friend suffering from early Alzheimer's disease. We helped her relive some fun memories.
ReplyDeleteThis is just lovely. We're incredibly thankful for your friendship!
ReplyDeleteI would sit thankfully at your table and share grace ...
ReplyDeletethank you for these words of wisdom.
I think with all the Thanksgiving festivities, and the stress and memories that come with them, that people often forget that kindness is the best way to express gratitude.
