Happy 19th Birthday Boo

Happy birthday Boo!
It was surprising but she turned 19!

***
It's a beautiful sunny day here today, which is not
at all unusual after a Hurricane passes by.
Sort of like a vacuum cleaning sucking up
all the debris.

***
Hurricane #Ian will be one for the record books.
Especially for SW FL.
I for one cannot even fathom what it must be like
to find your entire world destroyed as savagely as
Ian did to the SW FL coastline.
I am sure once all everything is recorded we will
find the topography of the coastline is forever changed.
It is going to take years to rebuild, if it is rebuilt.
I suspect there are a lot of folks who will
never rebuild on an barrier island.
My heart breaks for those people.
I cannot put into words how sad I am for
incredible destruction that happened to my state.
It began in SW FL but there was so much more
throughout the state, and it's not done yet.
All the water is still flowing up and out
to the Atlantic and causing flooding, and
infrastructure failings to happen. On I-75 near Ft Myers
the traffic was being diverted because a levee failed
and flooded, homes within the area had to be evacuated.
It's just beyond words.

***
Locally we had minor flooding, and that even feels
odd to say "minor". If it was your home with even
inches of water, you had to take your flooring up
and drywall out of the walls and furniture was lost.
It's miniscule compared to your home being washed
away but it's hard nevertheless.

***

I hate Hurricanes. Being what is now considered elderly
and alone I feel a lot more vulnerable than ever before,
even though I lived my entire life in this state.
The season isn't over yet either.
Another wave came off Africa, where it heads
no one knows.
I'm not sure Ian is finished yet.
It might have impacts to New England depending
on where it ultimately goes.

***
It's ironic, Boo, Ping & Jinx went through Hurricane Charley
in 2004 with us and it literally took the same path as
Ian. Now 18 years later it's just Boo & workshop cat Ping
still with me dealing with this again.

Hope things are better in your part of the world.
We'll be fine, for now at least, even if we feel more
vulnerable than ever.

***
Happy birthday to my sweet loving Boo,
who got evacuated with me (and Annabelle) during Ian.

#sunday selfies & A BIRTHDAY GIRL

OK Mom
***click***
There you go,here's my
photo for
sunday selfie blog hop.

OH MY WORD...
I forgot today is Boo's birthday!
She is...well a girl does reveal
her age after a certain one does she?
Boo is just as gorgeous as ever,
but she's a very senior girl now.
We're having a nor'easter here
right now so no happy whiffs
on the catio today.
Boo hates the sound of the rain drops
on the roof.
I know she'll spend a quiet day
in the master bedroom
where she feels content
(away from pesky brothers).
Happy birthday Boo.

Caturday Art : Birthday Edition : Boo

Today BIRTHDAY GIRL Boo is joining
for this week's
CATURDAY ART
blog hop.

***
Boo came to me along with her mates, Ping & Jinx
in the summer of 2004.
As many know, they were abandoned probably at the corner of my
street near my house and the three of them stayed
together and took up residence here.
It didn't take long until we adopted 3 cats at once.
So at the time we didn't know their ages.
But the vet thought Boo was younger than
Ping & Jinx, so they are about 6 months apart.
Now Boo joins up with her two mates and is
13. My three abandoned babies are babies no more.
But please join me in wishing her a quiet but happy
day today. She's my special lady and always has been.

Thursday Tails

Miss Boo

***

Miss Boo is a kitty that has always had a tendency
towards aloofness.
Way back in 2004 when the 3 amigos first arrived
here, she took it to a whole new level of aloof.
It was this detachment that led Mom to go in
search of a kitty who wanted to become a "lapcat"
*HENCE ABBY*
After we lost Abby, the hierarchy in the household changed
mainly because Abby ruled with an iron paw.
Really.
Ironclad paw.
No exceptions.
No one tried to cross Abby. at least not often.
They lost if they did.
It's funny because even if on the rare occasion when
Abby seems to be on the losing end, she wasn't
because she would wait and extract her revenge
when as the Godfather said (paraphrasing)
the dish turned cold.
So, after Abby left us, Boo slowly began to take the alpha role.
Gracie didn't care. She was a go along, get along girl.
The boys, well they learned to steer clear of Miss Boo.
Enter side left: Annabelle.
Annabelle just wants to be friends with everyone.
I believe she wants really wants to Mother everyone.
Boo wants NO part of it.
Our evening ritual with Boo going into the bedroom with me.
I keep the door closed, to keep my problem child Ping out.
I also love to bring Annabelle in.
But Boo is not having it.
Annabelle generally doesn't like to come into the room until close
to 10PM and Boo has been napping and resting
and relaxing in her "own" space.
Once Annabelle enters all bets are off.
Boo looks like a vulture up on a limb ready to strike.
Strike she does too.
She pounces on top of Annabelle who then runs and hides UTB.
After a few minutes the table is turned and Annabelle stalks her.
Chasing Boo around the room.
At this point, Boo is all upset and she paces until I let her out.
So out she goes and then Annabelle will either sit down with me,
or go sit by the closed door. She is doing one of two things,
guarding the door for Boo's eventual return, or she
wants to go out and chase Boo some more.
Once it's settling down time, Boo wants to sleep right up
against me. Normally Annabelle is out of the room.
But, not for long.
Because this is how Annabelle gets my attention.
She will go into the laundry room which sits
next to the master bedroom and slam the cabinet doors.
She knows if she keeps it up long enough I will let her in.
So then Boo, knows she is back in the room.
98% of the time she is sleepy and she let's things ride.
Annabelle has to explore the bedroom.
Then she is ready to settle down.
BUT she likes to sleep next to me in the exact same spot Boo is
occupying. Last night, as I was about asleep,
she jumped up on my stomach and startled me awake.
She saw Boo and then made biscuits on top of me
before settling down on the other side.
So I was sandwiched between them both.
This is a very typical nighttime routine.
***
After I had lost Abby, I had a reading with a psychic it was
mainly about Abby, but she mentioned to me that Boo
was talking to her and letting her know she wanted to be
an only kitty.
I have to laugh at that, because she still does!

***
UPDATE:
Bad Mom alert.
Mom forgot it's Boo's birthday today.
She's in big trouble. But if you were on FB
yesterday you saw all the goodies the kitties
got to open, and well Boo had a big
celebration and a lot of fun.
So Mom was kinda saved.
Just barely though.

We're joining Thankful Thursday
with PepiSmartDog
hope to see you there!

Boo Is A Purrfect TEN!

The many facets of Miss Boo
Our Boo is 10 this year! Wow where does the time go?
Boo is a very quiet ladycat, so she will be celebrating her purrday in the same style.
Just had to show you one collage of Abby and Boo together, twins from another Mother.
It's so hard to believe that Boo is 10. She, and Jinx and Ping all arrived on our doorstep literally in the summer of 2004. The Vet estimated her age and I counted backwards and April 1st it was decided would be her special purrday. Only a good guess, but there was no question she was a young kitten when she first arrived. Boo is a cat who would dearly love to be an only cat. She tolerates her brothers and one sister, especially her much younger sister. Boo and Abby had learned to co-exist, more on Boo's part than Abby. Abby just told you what she would allow, and Boo went along with it. Gracie and Boo got on well, as Gracie found a way to get along with everyone. Now that Annabelle is here, she wants to much to play and Boo well she is pulling rank and won't play period. So we'll just let Boo quietly celebrate this milestone but we will make note that today is designated as "hers". She appreciates all of your well wishes!
