I am going to turn over this posting to Mom....
This past Friday and Saturday we finally had our "garage sale". We've been working on it for nearly a month. We worried about the weekend we selected because of hurricanes and as it turned out there was one out in the Caribbean but we were lucky, it dissipated before it got close and the weather could not have been better!
We had lots of people stopping in and it was a lot of fun to meet so many of the families in our neighborhood.
I only had one person who bought something bring it back -- wow can you imagine?
I was disappointed that I didn't get any ladies who sewed because I had so much extra fabric and the beautiful linens I had didn't go over.
Luckily nearly everything you see in this picture of Christmas went to new homes! I told almost everyone that I was so glad to be able to see this stuff being used instead of packed away in boxes. For those who don't know, we were former antique dealers and when the economy took it's turn downward so did our business. We were forced to close it and this sale was compromised of what we had left over plus a few odds and ends that I added from my home. We've had it in storage now for several years. But since both of us retired we were finally able to take it all out of storage and present it. We sold about 2/3rds of what we had, so we felt it was a real success, and we had fun. But it's been a job, and now I have to repack what we didn't sell and we have to figure out what to do with the remainder that's left. But it did feel good to clear out so much.
That is a very extensive garage sale. How nice that it mostly did pretty well.
ReplyDeleteWow, that is quite the accomplishment, way to go!
ReplyDeleteThat was a big sale! We wondered why you had so many lamps so glad you mentioned you used to be an antique dealer. We're sure you need a rest after all that work.
ReplyDeleteThat was very large yard sale and to sell two thirds of it all, well we would certainly call that a success!

Wow! What a huge sale!!! And how fascinating to have been an antique dealer!
ReplyDeleteOh wow!! Oh I wish I lived there to have been given a chance to look at your garage sale! Wow!!! This is one amazing garage sale - not your every day knick-knack type bargain - but proper stuff!!
ReplyDeleteOh I'm so glad it was a success - it really looked like you both worked very hard setting it all up - it's very professionally laid out - brilliant!!! Well done again!!!
Awww hello there gorgeous Abby! take care
x
Wow! And our mum thought she had a lkot of stuff. What a great success!
ReplyDeleteMan! That's a LOT of work...while you've got it out you might want to take some pix and eBay some stuff...we used to do antiques too but ended up specializing in vintage music and ridding ourselves of our other stock on line.
ReplyDeleteIs there a local charity/women's shelter/pet shelter that takes donations? Many of them even do pick-up service.

Congratulations on a successful garage sale! That's a lot of work - glad it went well.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that you were able to sell so much!
ReplyDeleteThat's a lot of stuff. So glad you were able to get rid of most of it.
ReplyDeleteWow. At first we thought it must have been a communal sale, then we read your comment about it being leftover wares from your antiques business.
ReplyDeleteGood for you for selling so much of it! What a HUGE amount of work for you!
We didn't know you used to be an antique dealer. No wonder you had such awesome stuff! I would love to go to a garage sale like that! Maybe you can sell the rest of it on eBay, or save it for next year and have another garage sale!
ReplyDeleteListen to me meow about it...we never are organized to hold our own garage sale. We just pack up stuff and give it to Goodwill.
That is a big sale! We are glad it was mostly successful.
ReplyDeleteWow that garage sale was huge! I was thinking you had a lot of furniture, then you said you were antique dealers so it made sense :-)
ReplyDeleteI hope you can have a nice rest after so much work.
Wow! How well organized your garage sale was! Glad it went well!
ReplyDeleteWe are happy that your sale went so well!! Mom is at a stage where she wants to simplify things and get rid of "stuff". Thankfully not cats ;)

Wow! At first I thought all that stuff came from your house!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you did really well. You had beautiful stuff!
The Human says she bets you're glad it's over.
OH, how I wish I could have been there!!! And I have NEVER seen a garage sale so neat in all of my life. It was fun just looking at the pictures (but I still wish I'd been there).
ReplyDeleteSo glad you did so well.
