May I Take This Seat?

Here I is just sittin' here lookin out my window, sniffing the warm breeze, enjoyin' the good sunbeams hittin' my face when all of a sudden...
Some poodin' comes up and wants to be in the window wit me!

Ping! Gracie! And den here comes Jinxy! Goodness I hafta share my good sunbeams wif de other poodins! But I was a good poodin, I did share and didn't make no fuss 'bout it. Even if I did sit way over to da other side of the window. I still shared, and my Mom was proud of me!

The Window Seat

Abby has finally found the courage to get up into the window that looks out into the front area of our home. It is a place that ALL the other cats love because they can watch everything that goes on. Abby is a fearful kitty. I believe that is why she is so assertive with the other cats. But, yesterday as she was sitting in the window and I was nearby to give her security, my husband walked up towards the window from the garage and Abby became very alert and watched him with extreme caution. He moved back when he realized he was scaring her. I then left the laundry room and I saw Abby tear out of room and run down the hall where she sought safety in her little cave under the chair. She came into the kitchen where I was and looked at me with such fear in her eyes. I didn't move because I felt she would bolt if I moved towards her. Instead I spoke softly to her and called her to me and she came running to me. I thought to myself....what in heavens name did her former owners do to her to cause her to be so fearful? I took her in my arms and we sat down in her favorite chair and she settled into her familiar rountine and she was fast asleep in no time. It will be an ongoing process to try and relieve her of her fears and it will take years, if I can do it at all. But, I will continue to try.

Secret Paw

Abby had such fun with her package from her secret paw! Yes, she did share her goodies with Boo, Jinx, Ping & Gracie. In fact Ping was dragging that hot pink feather toy all over the house this morning as I was getting ready for work. I could hear the bell as he carried it throughout the house. THANK YOU Poi!

Playtime

Boo got a new toy! Boo get intimidated by all the other cats when it comes to playtime. So Boo and I go into "her" room and we play 'hunt the mousies'. Try throwing the mousie lion around with one hand and take pictures with the other. :-) Boo was jumping and frolicking and if I had been able to look through the lens of the camera I would have gotten a really neat 'jump' shot of her, as it was I got half of her. Boo is such a sweet girl. She is our little southern lady -- we affectionately call her Miss Boo. Now if only Blogger had let me load all the photos this morning of her playing....but could only get these two to upload.

Cat In The Hat(box)

What is it about boxes that attract cats like a magnet?
~~~
Abby decided she liked the way this box felt just right! Perfect size for her and she had fun digging in it and rubbing herself all over it. Cats and boxes are like a hand in a glove.
**Update**
Abby was back to her normal self running the show and feeling perky and sassy!
Under The Weather
Over the weekend Abby seemed to be developing a problem with tapeworms. (She says it feels like an ongoing problem,even though we keep Advantage on her!) Since I had the day off Monday; I thought I could get her into the V-E-T. Well four hours later we did get in. She cried all the way to the Vet, but she was really REALLY a good girl once we got there. She didn't like it when the tech took her back to give her the deworming medicine and when she came back in, she climbed literally up my shoulder and onto my back. She walked around my left shoulder to my right and then down my back. She was trying to get back into her carrier. She got back into the carrier and didn't want to come out when the Vet came in to give her yearly shots. ( Can't blame her there!)In fact she kept climbing up onto my shoulder while the Vet was trying to examine her. Once we got everything accomplished she was happy to head back home. But; between the deworming medicine, the Advantage and her two shots, she was not feeling too well. This picture was taken after we got home yesterday. She didn't eat too much and all she wanted to do was sleep. She was very sedate all evening. This morning as I got up, she wasn't waiting for me like she normally does and she was not perky once I started getting breakfast ready for everyone. She ate only sparlingly; but she did eat something. I cuddled with her for as long as I could this morning; but she just wasn't her normal self. Once my husband got up; Abby walked into the bathroom where he was starting to get ready and he reached down to pet her and she snapped at him and then sauntered off to run into Ping and give him his orders this morning. Now that was more like Abby!
All Out Binge on Niptinis
The evidence is in. Gracie has a problem. She found the Niptini mix and she went on a binge. This isn't the first time the other cats have found her spread out and nearly unconscious. They are thinking of doing an 'intervention'. SAVE GRACIE from her addiction to Niptini!
Not While I'm Around
Nothing's gonna harm you' not while I'm around
Nothing's gonna harm you, no sir, not while I'm around
Demons are prowling everywhere nowadays
I'll send them howling
I don't care. I got ways
No one's gonna hurt you
No one's gonna dare
Other can desert you,
Not to worry, whistle I'll be there!
Demons'll charm you with a smile, for a while,
But in time...
Nothing can harm you
Not while I'm around.
~~~~
This is from the musical Sweeny Todd and Barbra Streisand cut a rendition of it in the late 90's that runs through my thoughts and brings Abby to mind for me. Do you ever have songs that do that? Can't get them out of your minds. With Abby's past history of being passed into different homes I can safely tell her now that I will never desert her and she is safe from any harm forever with me.

Flying Through The Air With The Greatest Of Ease

Abby in midair.
It's rare for Abby to get up on the cat condo; so when I saw her up on the third level I aimed my camera at her; but she moved too quickly and I thought I got a blur. Instead I captured her in mid jump where she isn't touching anything. Just flying through midair. Cats are so beautiful in motion; but then again I know I am biased with Abby; I think she is beautiful no matter what the angle.

ABBY'S Public Service Announcement

Abby asks all of us to: Listen up poodins!
~~~
This is a sobering thought to consider. But; it is wiser to be aware of the developments and be very careful with our beloved felines. It is worth noting that any outdoor cat may( and I emphasis MAY) become infected if avian flu reaches our shores and I for one would hate to see the destruction of any animal because of fear spreading among people about exposure of this virus into cats. Everyone please be mindful of the possibilities.
Cats Can Catch and Spread Bird Flu, Study SaysStefan Lovgrenfor National Geographic News
September 2, 2004
A bird flu virus killed 26 people in Asia and led to the vast slaughter of poultry several months ago. Now a new study says the flu can also infect cats, and that cats can spread the flu to other cats. The finding raises the possibility that they may eventually spread the flu to other mammals, including humans.
Here is the link to the entire article in National Geographic.
The Sisters
Abby likes peace and quiet, so anytime there is the least bit of racket, she will chase it down and put an end to it. Yesterday, Boo was in the kitchen window playing chase the lizard and she happen to jump up into the blinds and make them rattle. Abby went ballistic on her. Poor Boo was stuck in the corner of the kitchen trying to ease her way away from a ravaging 6 pound cat. I tried to intervene, but I knew better than to just stick my hands between them. Boo finally dashed under the little table in the corner and that's when the fur really flew. Abby went in after her and there was much thrashing and caterwauling. In what was only mere seconds; Boo made her escape and dashed off. Abby was quickly after her; but at this point I was able to put an end to it. I scooped Boo up and took her to "her room". Her little heart was just pounding. I knew she was scared. I sat with her and rubbed her back just like she loves and calmed her down. I kept the two girls separated. When I went back into the kitchen Abby was still prowling the scene of the crime. She is very persistent. When she goes after one of the kitties she doesn't stop until she has made her point. She is simply the alpha cat. No harm was really done to Boo; other than scaring her witless. I don't like it when they tussle; but I know that they do sort things out amongst themselves. So now there is peace again in Abby world's.
