Tuxie Toosday

Hi efurryone! Today is the final day of August. That means f-a-l-l isn't far off. YAY! We love cool weather. It's been a very long hot summer here, and with the typical Florida weather, we expect that even though the calender says it's going to be the turning into fall soon, we'll still have the 'hots' for awhile. But the other thing that this change signifies is it's almost FOOTBALL season. We hope for a real fun season. Momma has followed footballs since she was a young kit. Her Daddy is from Texas, so he always watched the Cowboys on TV, so she became a cowboy fan. She remembers watching Roger Staubach play and Bullit Bob Hayes (he was billed as the fastest man on earth at the time because he had won an Olympic gold metal in track and field). Bob Hayes is from Jacksonville, which is where Momma is from, he passed on a few years ago, but he is thought of very well in Jacksonville. So yahoo gitty up little doggies it's time for football. Good luck to efurryone's team!

Scafflaw Week Part 3

Fin at Housecat Confidential is having a week of kitties flaunting their rule bending ways.
Today we show you Ping in one of his finest moments.
The brick step is about 2 1/2 feet tall, and the collectible cabinet is over 6 feet tall. This is how I found Ping one morning very early as I was getting ready for work.
He is so proud of himself.

Ping: I am KING of the world!

Abby with her face in the cookie jar

I am going through my pictures which I usually list by date only so I can't remember what I have in each folder until I look. (I need to come up with a better system...sad to say I have over 30,000 pictures to re-do, somehow I don't think I will be doing a lot of changes anytime soon -- oh well) Here is one of the first ones I found of Abby head dunk into the 'treat' jar. Yessireebob this epitomizes Abby and her love of a good treat.

Scatterings

Be kinder than necessary
for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
Live simply,
Love generously,
Care deeply,
Speak kindly,
and pray continually.
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass...
It's about learning to dance in the rain.
Attitude is definitely everything.
It's not what you gather, but what you scatter that tells what kind of life you have lived.

The Big E, The White Boy, And Winnie

Be not dismayed at Good-bye's. A farewell is necessary before we can meet again.

Dear Eric
We were sadden to learn from your Mom's posting today that you had to run off to the Bridge. We have followed you from the inception of your blog and today it feels like we have not only lost you;but a bit of ourselves as well. We always loved reading about your adventures out in your garden and when you would go on visits to your relatives. You were a wise and wonderful cat Eric and you will be greatly missed, but you know what? We will look for you in that secret place that only kitties know and we will see you visits. Your Mom needs some looking after and we will all do our part to send her healing purrs and soft whisker kisses.

Until we meet again...
loving purrs
Abby

Like the rainbow
fading in the twinkling of eye
gone too soon

We didn't think today could get any sadder and then we learned that dear sweet Luxor, the whitest of boys left us for the light of the Rainbow. Two long time furfriends in such a short period of time it is a double blow. Our hearts break for Luxor's Mom and Dad who have been nursing Luxor since his illness.

And then sweet innocent tiny Winnie, who had the briefest of stops into our lives stole our hearts and then broke them. We'll miss you dear sweet tiny girl.

It's been such a sad day and we sent healing light and purrs to all of those whose hearts are heavy with sadness.

Happy Fifth Year Anniversary

Today is our 5th year Blogging anniversary!
Wow!
5 wonderful years of tresured memories.(We only wish Haloscan had not vanished . We lost 17,000 comments)
But our pictoral past is here.
Mom started blogging because of me.
You may or may not know that in 2004 during the summer of the hurricane hell, Boo,Ping, & Jinx adopted Mom and Dad.
Mom and Dad were first timers.
They had never been owned by cats before.
Mom developed a special bond with my tuxie sisfur Boo.
But Boo was and still is a very aloof girl. Mom wanted a lap cat.
So she went in search of .... well me.
She wanted a small tuxie girl as a companion for Boo and for her.
She worked with Lucky Cat Adoptions and it just so happens that my former family (well the Dad of my former family) wanted to me to live someplace else.
So Lucky Cat made a 'hook up' and the rest as they say is history.
Mom began a journal which she kept off line of every day of my life with her -- which had started in June.
Mom got to wondering about doing something online, and in 2005, blogging wasn't something she was familiar with.
But the more she looked at it, the more she liked the idea.
So she started blogging.
There have been so many wonderful pawrents and kitties we have met through the years and blogging has become such a joy.
We are so glad that you are here with us today to help us begin our 6th year of blogging and here's to many more happy times to come.

Wooded Path

I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

Femme Friday

Gracie is a tiny compact girl. She is the softest kitty in the house, we always call her Cashmere because her fur is as soft as down feathers. Her legs are quite short and yet she has mancat paws, but on her it looks purrfect. When she runs or walks she has a crab like sideway movement. She can dash and dart faster than anyone but Ping (who is supercat!). Her meow is a high pitch squeak and sometime she opens her mouth to say meow and nothing comes out. She is so adorable. Gracie is also the one who is most afraid, but then again someone kindly dumped her at Animal Care and Control where she lived outside on the front step for nearly a week. They did not want to bring her inside because they knew it was a death sentence. I am so glad we opened our hearts to her that day and just took her home, she has been so grateful to us, but really we are the ones who are grateful that she is with us.

Gotcha Days

My three amigos!

It was 2004.
One night my husband and I were sitting in the front bedroom and I heard meows. Crying.

Thinking that someone's cat was visiting, I didn't consider it any further.

A few days later as we were doing some outside work, I walked by the front entryway to our home. (We always use the back entry)
There in the chair on the atrium was a Tuxie and a grey Tabby cat.

When they saw us they both ran.
But almost immediately the grey Tabby came right back.
So I said let's go get them something to eat.
As soon as the tuna was out, the black Tuxie was back.
And then out of the bushes a Orange Tabby jumped out.
He was the most skittish.
In fact he would not let you approach him at all.

But both the Tuxie and the grey Tabby were tame(so was the orange tabby!)
Some "kind" person had casually dropped off these three and drove away.
We think that they were dropped off at the corner of our house, and that they
went to the closet house, because they were used to being indoors.

Not knowing anything about cats, we had a learning curve.
They became our outside kitties, but not for long
First they moved into the garage.
Soon Boo moved inside the house, then one day Ping went missing.
*sigh* The story of his life!
So we couldn't leave Jinx outside by himself, so he came in.
Then Ping showed back up.
So he moved in too.

We know now that the 'kind' person who dumped the three of them couldn't handle Ping. He was and is a character. Since being with us the past 7 years he has grown to feel more secure. He still has issues and we just deal with them without punishment because Ping is such a loving soul. He is a sweet gentle playful boy. But he has his insecurities. He can't be criticized. He has come a long way but his issues I think they will always be with him. We love him unconditionally, but I will tell you he has tried my patience on many an occasion, and he does get time outs on the back porch. He is so sad when I put him out and after awhile when I have calmed myself, I feel so bad because he has such a mournful look on his face. He does not like being alone.

Jinx has remained the same, the only throwback to those days when he was homeless is that he is food oriented. He is afraid I feel that whatever meal it is is his last. He is my most insistent on eating on schedule.

Boo has changed over the years. She used to be very aloof. Now when she is alone with me (away from Abby) she wants attention and she must sleep next to me, nearly on top of me, every night. So her aloofness and seeming icy demeanor is more show than reality.

So now we do celebrate 7 years.
I can't quite grasp it has been that long.
I am so thankful to that 'kind' person for gifting them to me.
It goes to show that old cliche about one person's trash is another treasure is so true.
They are my treasures, and I do totally treasure each day with them.
