They are the leaders of the spelling-reform movement, a passionate but sporadic 800-year-old campaign to simplify English orthography. In its long and failure-ridden history, the movement has tried to convince an indifferent public of the need for a spelling system based on pronunciation.

Reformers, including Mark Twain, Charles Darwin and Theodore Roosevelt, argued that phonetic spellings would make it easier for children, foreigners and adults with learning disabilities to read and write. For centuries, few listened, and the movement, exhausted by its own rhetoric and disputes within its ranks, sputtered out. It's back.

Finally Friday

Daddy has become a volunteer at our local Safe Animal Shelter. This past Tuesday he helped out by taking some of the animals to the Vet for treatment. He was upset because when he got to the Shelter some kind soul had left two baby kittens under a birdcage by the front door. They were so tiny and scared. He was very worried about what was going to happen to them. But, they took them in and he said that they were back in the back where the kittens live, they were isolated until they could be taken to the Vet for a through check up. We hope that they both find a good forever home...the poor babies and we can't help but wonder what happened to their Mom? We'll never know, but our hearts go out to all of those in need of a forever home.

We were all suddenly shaken by the loss this week of one of our dear furfriends. Bonnie and Victor were some of the first cat bloggers we met. We were taken with Bonnie's and Victor's antics. It was with great sadness that Bonnie passed over to the Rainbow Bridge this week and it made us realize how fleeting and ephemeral life can be. How quickly it passes right before us. How we need to take a moment and make sure we show our love each and every day to one another and always always ALWAYS never take a day for granted. Miles and Sammy have suggested a passing out hugs today and we think that Bonnie would like this so please pass along a kitty hug in Bonnie's honor. Bonnie we sure will miss you little attack tabby. Please drop in and give a purr to Bonnie's family, I know that their hearts are broken.

Finally Friday

Abby: oooo that mysterious door is opening.....
Abby: I can't wait to get into this room!

And neither can Jinx or Gracie.

There is always a mad dash to come into the Master Bedroom. We normally keep everyone out because someone (whose name starts with a "P") liked to spray the bed skirt. Boo has always had unlimited access to this room and she will ask to be let in before we leave for work each morning. Boo is so sensitive, and we have found that the other cats will pick on her if we don't let her in the bedroom. She also has her own 'private' litterbox in there and many times she wants to use that box and she will ask to be let in so she can go in and just use the box and come right back out. Abby knows that she is allowed in after dinner. I always sit with her in my lap in the over sized chair and Boo sits on the back of the chair looking out and when she is ready she slips down and lays right beside me. Unfortunately, Abby isn't always accomodating and she will whap whap whap at Boo to get her to move. So, they have trained me to distract them with treats and finally I can get them both to lay still for awhile until it all starts again.

We are all purrin for those that have been affected by the fires in Volusia and Brevard counties. Over 15 miles has been destroyed, 100 of homes with many destroyed. Most of these families were given little time to evacuate and we worry about the loss of human and non human life. One lady we saw on the news said she was not home when the evacuation order was given and her cats were at home. I can't tell you how devasting it would be to have such news given to me. We have a small fire in our county and the danger of fires around the state is at an all time high. They suspect that the fires in Mid-Florida have been set by arson, and have one person in custody. So pleeesssseee send a purrayer to all of those who have been affected and we hope that all of our furfriends down state are safe from harms way.
