There But For The Grace Of God Go I

Abby -- WHY????
*****
I was going to post about something totally different , but that was changed when I witnessed a man in front of the federal agency I work for with his car stopped and driver's door opened in the early morning hours near the front entrance to the building. At first all I could see was that he was out the vehicle with the driver's door opened which is a little strange at 5:30 in the morning. Then I saw him use his foot to push something aside. As I drove around his vehicle (which was in the way) I noticed what he was pushing aside was a puppy. I am sorry, I don't mean to offend anyone, but what a dead beat. How could you drop a puppy in the middle of a high traffic area and drive off. The puppy was trying desperately to get back into the vehicle with a monster that was so callously abandoning him. Isn't that the irony of the devotion of animals? I wanted to go and grab the puppy, and I thought what in the world was I going to do with him? I couldn't have brought him into work. Then as I drove around to where the employees park, the man had his vehicle stopped again in the lane leading into the parking lot and someone was getting out of the passenger side door, as I walked into the building I could see this person was walking back to the customer parking area where the puppy had been dropped off. I wasn't able to see if he went back to get the puppy, but I so pray he did.
*****
So, for all of those animals who don't have the luxury of my little angel Abby who is pictured snuggled in her one of her favorite little beds, my heart aches. Why is so easy to abandon a helpless creature on the side of road and have no conscious about that act?

Sharing

When I purchased this cat bed, I thought that Abby would want to cozy up into it. Well she did for about 3 days. Then it sat empty for some time, until one day Gracie discovered it and this is where she hangs out a great deal of her day. She just loves it. Imagine my surprise one day to find my Boo girl resting comfortably carefree and snuggled all down in this little blue bed. It is the perfect place for any one of them to get into and find good sunbeams and views.

CAT FOOD RECALL

Day before yesterday, my husband told me that there was a recall on one brand of cat food. Then yesterday when he came home from work, he said that the company he works for pulled their store brand off the shelves to be safe. Now this morning I see that at this point there are over 40 brands of dog and cat food. Please check here. I hope no one in our community has been adversely affected.

Little Miss Grace

Don't you just love the colors in her fur?
The light from the sun really shows off the warm chocolate tones in her soft downy fur.

Fun In The Sun

Abby
Abby has never enjoyed coming out on the back screened in porch. She is very conservative in her approach to terrority. It took her a long time to adapt to each room in the house. The final frontier has been the screen porch. It has long been a staple of Ping, Jinx and Gracie. Abby is a very solitary girl and she doesn't like being too close to any of the cats. So it was amazing to see her on the back porch -- OF HER OWN free will.
I think she just followed me. We had a 5 cat porch on Sunday when the weather was so nice. Secretly, I think Abby enjoyed the sunbeams!

The Elusive Grace

Gracie does not like having her picture taken. Where Abby, Boo and Jinx will tolerate having their pictures snapped and flashes going off, Gracie runs at the sight of the camera. (Ping is a real ham; he loves having his picture taken, I think that is why I get such beautiful pictures of him.)Or if by chance she will stay still long enough, the moment she hears the shutter click she runs off and I usually get a partial cat in the picture frame. We don't know why, but Gracie is fearful. She is fearful of any sudden movement or sound. She is just a little over 6 pounds so she is a small girl and she has very short legs, but when she moves she goes by in a blur. I surmise that whoever had her prior to us shooed her away everytime she came near. She is such a friendly girl and quite loving, I just don't know how some people can be so unkind. It will take a long long time before she loses her fear, but I pray that she will one day. I work with her and she has started to come around. She loves to head bonk, and she enjoys getting up in my lap. But she only stays for brief moments and then she becomes the flash again. Abby torments her; but she is very quick with that left jab, so Abby has gotten slapped a few times. Time will tell if we can slowly pull Gracie from her shell.

Happy As A Sunbeam

Abby
*****
Yesterday Abby kept the ever watchful eye on me. Aside from dinner she never left my side. When it came time for a shower, she sat faithfully at the shower door until I came out. She wanted something. She jumped up on top of the toilet and as she was poised on the edge; I could tell she was getting ready to pull her up onto her back two legs. I knew she would fall if I didn't catch her. She knew I would catch her . So she reached up like a tiny child with arms wide out....Momma pick me up....and so I cradle her in my arms. I spoke our special language and she was a cacophany of purrs. She was so happy. For any non animal lover to believe that our fur babies don't understand, need and want love I say PAHOOEY on you. They do understand far more than perhaps we even know. All I know is that I got much more than I gave.

Tabby Tuesday

Ping

Ping has always been our 'special needs' kitty. He is very insecure. But within his insecurity he shows his vulnerablity. He is quite childlike and lovable. This morning he wanted my full attention. He was in the middle of my morning routine. He hopped up on the bathroom counter and proceed to catwalk the edge stopping to make sure I got the head bonks and proverbial tail in the face. He just wanted some attention. So I made sure to give him some head scritches, which he loves. Abby watched all of this from below and I don't think she was too amused. In fact she finally chased him out of the bathroom. Ahhhh children...children.

I Knead You

Abby
***
Why do cats tread and knead with their paws when content?
As kittens, tiny paws push rhythmically against Mom's belly to simulate the release of milk. Adult cats who knead are thought to be remembering back to their carefree kitten days. So take it as a compliment when your kitty give you a love paws massage. She is saying she 'kneads' you.

Abby is kneading everyone to drop by and check into The Ark starting today and she also reminds you that it's the #154 edition of Carnival of the Cats being hosted this weekend by Tacjammer. Stop by and visit all the adorable cute furry puffs.
