Boo and I invented a game that she really likes to play. She is not that fond of the 'feathery' end of the proverbial feather toy, she likes the other 'stick' end. What she likes for me to do is run the the stick along the edge of some fabric (like the bed linens) and she will give chase to the movements which are burrowed under the covers. She was really giving it all she had in this play session. Boo likes to play alone. She doesn't enjoy playing with the other cats, I think she feels intimidated by her brothers. She is a very girlie girl. But when she comes into the bedroom at night and she is alone she can be a wild woman! Woo Woo Boo!

Window Whiffs

This is Abby's normal posture when standing, which is typically manx. You can tell her front end is much smaller than her hind end which is also typically manx. You can also see her dense double coat which has a spiky look to it. Her coat is very soft and surprisingly she doesn't shed all that much, but please no brushing. She is not fond of furminator, plus it really doesn't get much off of her, which is amazing to me. She also has very powerful thighs and is quite muscular and she will 'hop' when running. But for the moment she is just enjoying a sweet scent on the morning breeze.

Good News

I am happy to note that thankfully with additional antibiotics the inflammation is now regressing, the pain is going down and the abscess is starting to resemble a normal wound. The culture they took at the ER grew nothing, which is great news. I hate to be real graphic but what was seeping out of the wound was not pretty and I was afraid I had gotten staph or something else. I was too afraid to think much about it. But, I really encourage anyone with a bite to please seek medical attention quickly. I saw my Primary Care Doctor in less than 12 hours after the bite and it was just starting to get nasty. The antibiotics she prescribed were not strong enough to over power the infection that set in. It did take an all out assault with a combination of two antibiotics (which I have to take for 10 days). But I am so glad to see things begin to go in a positive direction!!

Update on The Bite

Mom's wrist has gotten worse. On Friday her doctor told her that if the infection spread in her wrist to go to the ER. So Mom ended up in the ER last night and they gave her antibiotics through an IV. So now she has two antibiotics to take. She also has to follow up with another visit to her Doctor next week, unless her symptoms worsen today and she has to go back to the ER. They told her last night if she had to come back to the ER they would admit her to the hospital.

Kitties this is nothing to mess around with.
Mom is thinking of all of you and will be back to visiting as soon as she is able.

***
She is not mad with me, but she is a bit wary when she pets me and I nip her.

Ah perchance to sleep

Sleeping is very underrated.

The Bite

Bad girl!

Last night after 9PM EST I was sitting with Abby in my lap giving her a good scritch in a place on her lower neck that she was enjoying when all of a sudden she seized a hold of my lower wrist and bit. Now this isn't unusual for her to be bitey, but in the past when she has 'bitten' it was more like a pinch, it would hurt but the skin would not be broken. She had my wrist in her mouth and she had her claws in me and I told her to let go and pulled back but not quickly. Well that got her all the more worked up and she attacked the top and bottom of my wrist with vigor and bit D-O-W-N and shook my wrist like it was food. She did this twice and she grabbed a hold again with her claws. After that it was all over. I mean this took all of 20 seconds if that. I was trying to minimize the damage without getting hurt, well I got hurt anyway. I mean it really hurt, and I'm sure any of you who have been bitten known what I'm saying. I went in and immediately cleaned up the wounds with alcohol and then some bedadine. But it really hurt through the night I could not stand anything to touch it. This morning when I got up it was swollen, inflamed and really hurting. So I called the doctor and they saw me right away. They all told me that anytime you have a cat bite seek medical attention. As you will see if you wish to look below at the two images my Doctor drew some lines around the two areas and said if the inflammation goes beyond that point GO TO THE ER! So she said she was putting me on some very strong antibiotics and I should see a decrease perhaps as early as tomorrow. So, I just wanted to let efurryone know that I will be a little slow on making many comments over the weekend. If you are squeamish do not look at the two pictures down below.

Here Abby is asleep in my lap at the kitchen counter. She has a habit of getting up into my lap when we eat dinner ( or breakfast as was the case in this instance). The first thing she does is knead my legs and then she wants a few tiny morsels of food, which she eats from my hand.Then she will curl up on my lap and fall fast asleep. Just like she is here. I know I spoil her, but she loves it and I must admit I do too.

Kneading you with his paws
Most people realize that when their cat kneads your stomach with his paws, he is showing his love for you. Usually, the cat will have a very special, loving expression on his face; he may be purring, and he may even be drooling slightly. Your cat is back in touch with his instincts as a kitten when he does this, and feeling the same sense of comfort and warmth that he did as a kitten when he was with his mother. Young kittens knead their mother’s nipples to stimulate the “let down” reflex in her so that her milk flows for the kittens to suckle. If his kneading behavior is uncomfortable for you, be sure to keep your cat’s nails clipped short, and maybe keep an extra towel around to pad the area he is kneading!

When she is kneading, she does have a loving expression and purrs loudly ( full throttle) and she will drool when she is especially happy, and I do need a towel to keep from getting too nicked up from her claws. But it makes her a very happy kitty, and makes me a happy kitty Mom.

Purrfectly Parker

Our sweet friend Parker hasn't been feeling too good lately and hasn't been blogging because of that. Today her beloved Mom and Dad tell us why. Sadly our wonderful friend was given a diagnosis that is not promising, and both her Mom and Dad have decided to make quality time of the utmost importance. Parker began blogging in 2007, here is where she introduced herself to the CB along with her siblings, Powder, Puff, Rudy and Doggie Diamond. Please drop in today and tell Parker you love her, we know we do. We're thinking of you Miss Parker Pie and sending all of the strongest purrs we have. Love you Parker!!!

Ping & Gracie asleep together on the foot rest.
Gracie has only been with us since July. She was abandoned at the door of the Animal Care & Control. They had not taken her in because they didn't want another mouth to feed, and to be fair I believe they were hoping someone who came in would take her -- for free. Of course, we were those "someones". Gracie is only a kitten with a big PERSONALITY. She is a very loving girl who just wants to be loved back. We felt strongly that she wouldn't have any trouble fitting in with our expanding family, and she hasn't. At first, Ping & Jinx were standoffish to her, but she is so infectious, that it wasn't long before they were all frolicking and playing like long lost brothers and sisters. Gracie has a habit of headbutting anyone or anything as her way of saying "hello". She began walking up to her brothers and doing this which shocked the heck out of them, they didn't know what to think. But, they soon realized she was only warmly greeting them and they began accepting her welcome with kitty kindnesses of their own. As you can see Gracie warmly snuggled up to Ping suggests they have really accepted their youngest sister. She has had less success with acceptance from her two sisters. Boo is skittish, and since Gracie likes to romp it scares her. So they are still adjusting. Abby hasn't taken to Gracie at all. She is the oldest cat and is settled into her ways. It will take some time, but I believe that sooner or later (probably MORE on the later part) they will form an acceptance of each other. But for now, Gracie is quite happy to be totally accepted by her big brothers.

Does Size Matter

Mr Jinx is your average (well...sort of...he is a bit, er.... well fed, but otherwise 'average') sized kitty. You can see Abby is about half his size. But do you know who rules the roost? Yep you guessed it ABBY!

Mamas Cup

++++
Please take a moment to visit our dear friend Mario Mom's Blog Shuffling Along. She has allowed us to guest post on her blog today!
++++
Many years ago my Grandmother gave this small amber colored glass cup to me. I recall she told me that it belonged to my Great-Great-Great-Great-Great Grandmother. Recently while doing a complete over due cleaning I picked this cup up to dust and saw that on the bottom she had written this information on the bottom. The writing is hers and it brought her back to life for me for a brief moment. The lettering is fading and I knew I needed to try and in some ways keep in for posterity sake, so I took photos of it hoping that it would appear like magic. Believe me if you were to look at the small piece of tape she used the words are nearly impossible to see but with some work and a bit of photo magic the words and her handwriting are there.

I wish now I could ask her a bit more about this.
I wish I could talk to her again.
